Wasteful. I caught a limit the other day in Delacroix and they were hitting matrix shad under a cork better than shrimp. Big trout too. Caught a fat 22 incher probably 6 lbs or so. I took a pic but suck at posting from phone.

Got it working. No chumming required. Last Tuesday.

Not going to lie, on the occasion of fishing with dead shrimp I always rip the head off and throw it in the water just to make myself believe that this little bit of chumming will help

How much do live shrimp cost? Seems like an expensive way to go.

Yeah, same here. My biggest was a 5.5 lb. and it was 24 inches - and they are all fat at that size. So unless that 22 incher just swallowed a 2 lb. mullet...

ETA:...and the guy suggesting that you chum with live shrimp owns the marina. All makes sense now.

I've seen guides throw shrimp overboard to get the bite going and to keep it going.

Your average weekend warrior isn't going to blow that kind of money though.

This.....Can't tell you how many times I've seen people say they are catching 3-4 pound trout and they barely hit 2 pounds.

Last time I fished with Jack, he did chum, but it was with a handful of dead shrimp. He crushed them under his foot, and tossed the mess in. He did it when the fish slowed down. They did seem to react to it and get going again. Ended up sitting in one spot for 125 trout. It seemed to work.
Chumming live shrimp seems silly.

I was taught as a kid to use the last number in the 20" range for weight. So it would have to been a 26" to be 6 lbs. I don't get to test the theory much cause I would rather a boat full of 16-18" trout

So you think it was 0 lbs? not trying to argue with anyone, the trout im catching now are very fat. Its a good time to load up on filets if you can catch a day with good weather

Now, obviously, it's an inexact science. Just like in humans, length and weight don't always correspond. Some speckled trout are Melissa McCarthy while others are Nicole Richie.
