Christmas tree fish mats?

Taildragger and I have rounded up quite a few Christmas trees to sink. Any method to the madness? How deep of water? Best way to sink em? Multiple spots or one epic mat? Any advice from the slab lip rippers of the OB would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your post. I just bought a place on a small lake and have been mulling over sinking a few myself. In the middle of the night so as to not risk the wrath of my new HOA.

Be careful if it's a small pond, some tree farms use insecticides highly toxic to fish. I put one in my pond a few years ago and 2 days later, lost ~20 nice 2-3 lb bass and a bunch of bluegill. I had to take it out.
I would leave it outside in the rain for a few weeks before sinking it.

Tie a cinder block to the top. Set it to where it floats upside down.

I cut 5 gallon buckets to 6-8 inches then fill with easy crete and stick tree in it.
Deeper the better. When it's cold, that's where they'll be.

Go easy. If you put one out that's one more than you had...maybe.
Even with bamboo, a few stalks goes a long way so don't think you have to put 4 trees to make it worthwhile.

We drop 25 every two years out from my grandfathers pier where he lives. We do two rows. One just inside max casting distance in 10' of water and one row about half way back to pier in 6-8' of water. We tie the cinder block to the middle and lay them down. Cut out some branches to make some holes. Silt attachs to the trees and you need some holes or they lose their effectiveness. Catch fish on them in the winter and the heat of the summer.

And for a place you practically live at, like IC, go hard. These are what you need. Won't hang up.
You will need to sand them though, so algae can grow on it. Also need a screw on each side of hole in 6 in pipe to keep 1/2 inch (or whatever size you use) from backing out.
Put coupling in crete, slide tree on coupling, screw, drop.

I'm just messing around I don't have any there. But I do in other places. We don't even use trees. Just anything that will sink we put out with some fresh tops.
