Although im all for cool and new 1911's, why would Chris Kyle get a signature 1911? He was a SEAL so his sidearm should have been a Sig P226 9mm. Was he known for carrying one? They havent carried 1911s in a long time. I dont get it. Anyhow, a Springfield TRP is one bad mofo regardless.

He did carry one. He was able to switch out the p226 for it. He actually had the same model according to his book. It took some shrapnel though and he ended up going with a P220 after. This is all from his book.

I've been told that the special forces regardless of branch could carry whatever sidearm they preferred.

Well that's very cool. Springfield Armory TRP has always been at the top of my list as a "want" weapon. Along with an M1A. S.A. will drain my bank acct one gun at a time.

An S.A. TRP is a good choice but why when you can get a Wilson, Brown, Baer, etc for the same price pretty much? All the brands I listed are infinitely better.

They probably don't have a government contract.

He was a very avid gun collector. He touched on it some in American Sniper and his second book that his wife finished is called American Gun and is about how guns shaped our country. I still have to finish reading it but his EDC was a 1911 from what I read. (After serving)

Can you? What's the MSRP on a TRP? $1399 or so?

I have it on good authority CK didn't write a single word of that second book

You are right that it is on good authority because his wife assisted in writing and it says in the beginning of the book that he was killed before the book was penned. I think they just used some of his notes that he had written down before his death. Sounds like you or your "good authority" thinks you have a nugget of info that is far less hidden than you think.

I find this really cool. Currently can't afford it but still think it's good for down people: I have a TRP that has spent some time in the hands of Springfields custom shop. I figure I've got exactly half in mine as a Wilson bear or brown. You can feel that those three are a better gun than what I've got if they are side by side but that TRP is a serious 1911.

Cant say what he carried while in service, but I got invited to go shoot with him and some others right before he died and he had a 1911 with him that day.
