Changing ammo after sighting in...

So I sighted my 270 wsm with 130 gr corelokts last, and shot it earlier to make sure it's on, and it is...
However, I'm thinking about switching to the Barnes vortex 140 gr. First, is the vortex a pretty good bullet? And, would you sight it in again since I'm changing weights?

Very likely that your POI will change with different ammo, especially since you changed weights. I would shoot again to check and adjust scope. It will likely only be a few clicks.

My .270 was sited in at 100 with 150gr core Lokts. I reloaded some Barnes Bullets and when I shot them, they shot 6" higher at 100 yards. Different bullets/loads fly differently through every barrell.

I used to think the Core-Lokt was the creme de la creme of center fire cartridges. You will be pleased with the Vortex.

Well damn lol. Then I'll definitely be shooting it again

Yes and yes, different bullets at the same weight will often travel differently, on top of the fact that you are going from lead to leadless bullet

The same is true for crossbows.

I had a 270 WSM. Best bullet for me was the Federal Accubond. Think it had a white tip. Bullet grouped good and performance was unbelievable. Very good blood trails. Used the Barnes Vortex in my 280 and was not as happy with the blood trail (right behind shoulder drops of blood as big as chiggers). Took me a good hour to track 20 yards in a thicket!

I'm a big fan of the Nosler Partition bullets. Nosler also makes the Accubonds and yes they have the white tip. I have loaded them but not shot them at game yet. I have read great things about them and may look into hunting with them in the future.

quote:Solid analogy. Although, I would assume with the OP it's probably not near as drastic as going from a mechanical broad head to a fixed broad head and vise versa, or field tip to broad head.
The same is true for crossbows.

I was mainly poking fun at the handicap/crossbow controversy dudes in that other thread.
