Looking for something decent bascially for home use. I have two decent sized trees I need to take care of.

Any recommendation of brand, etc?

The 170 series Sthil is suppose to be a good saw. in that price range.

I run an older husky, but now they are built by the same folks that make Poulans I have lost my faith in some of the lower end huskys in the price range you are looking.

Ive got a Homelite Ranger with a 16" bar. certainly wouldnt try start a logging business with it, but its done well for trimming the fence lines, oaks, and pecans. Again, it aint no Stihl, but its pretty good for the weekend warrior maintaining his property.

What size blade?

Also what is adequate power? (I dont want to buy a weak piece of shite when I can spend an extra $50 for something much better)

I have the Stihl Mini Boss and it is badass. Lot of power for the size.

I haven't come across anything it couldn't cut yet.

Seems like a good thing to rent - then you get a real deal saw that otherwise you'll hardly use.

I bought a Craftsman 20 inch this summer for around $180 and so far I love it. My old saw was a 13 inch Poulan so almost anything would have been an improvement. We live in the woods and the drought has killed several very large trees so I've now got 3-4 years worth of firewood.

They're great little saws for 95% of cutting that an average man does. Very very VERY few people actually need something that can spin a 24" bar. An MS170 will easily run a 16" bar with a good chain and it won't wear you the frick out while doing it. It will blast through a 14" bar, which is the size I recommend for normal work with an ms170.

I'd love to know how many hours I have on mine. It has caught mega hell.

And I apologize I didnt review my post. I meant under $300.

16" blade.

It's a 41cc, but i have had no power problems cutting though mostly pine.
