I think you need to look at other guns. Preferably a double action.

I have a 938 and have a sticky holster for my pocket and an alien holster. Works just like a 1911 sans a grip safety. I have never had an issue. I like this gun better than my shield. Accurate, light and handles 9mm really well.

My point was your comment --- " terrified of breaking the rules of engagement but I don't feel threatened enough for that...."

Nothing about carrying a 1911 violates any military "rules of engagement."
