I'm new to the CB radio game...a little late I know.

Where in the Baton Rouge area can I purchase a decent antenna? The one I picked up from pilot is terrible.

TIA

You need height....you running duals?

I have a tuned up CB with 2 4ft and I get out pretty good when I am on the road traveling. My antenna are standard ones from a truck stop.

102" Whip antenna if you want to get serious.

I think I may need a whip of some sort....on a rag top jeep there aren't many high spots.

104" whip with a Penn tennis ball is the only way to go.

In this day and age, why does anybody get into the CB game? I'm curious, maybe I'm missing out on something.

I had one years ago. It was nice travelling cross country, especially in western states where no phone signal or even FM radio available. Passes the time listening.

Not sure how useful they are now.

If you are into the offroad club thing...CB's come in very handy.

Me personally I used mine when driving long distances for work. gave me something to do to pass the time and helped out quite a bit for traffic and cops.

There's a kickass CB shop in oppolosses off of 190. Forget the name.

Wilson 1000 or 5000 roof mount is where it's at. Even with a cheap arse cobra and a toolbox in the bed my SWRs stay around 0.8-1.1

I got the name Hammertime because I drive so fast. It is against the law to come up with your own handle under R.S. 43.221 of Louisiana State Code

I have a Wilson 1000 mag mount on my truck. Works fine for what I need because I am not running over 1000w of output. For a soft top Jeep, most people just get a 4ft firestick and put it on the bumper. Get a decent radio, decent antenna, and small linear and you will be set

FWIW, having antennas closer than 6ft apart does nothing whatsoever

Bordelon's between Port Barre and I-49 is a good place to go if you want local. It is across from a big arse Shell station

It kicks arse on road trips and when you and your buddy's are taking more than one vehicle somewhere.

I use the frick outta mine. It also catches 10 VHF weather stations

Was VERY useful during the hurricane. Has also gotten me out of lots of tickets.

And it's an excuse to make your truck look like an RC car :lol;

I used it on logging roads. Got ran off of a pretty steep one in Homochitto by a loaded truck with it off, and vowed I wouldn't ever do that again

It also helps in traffic or when there are accidents on the interstate

They are the only way to go with a convoy or a trail ride. Most off road clubs or parks mandate them.

I use a Wilson jr on two trucks, much better than the thicker 4' sticks.

The magnets are good but you will knock it off.

The permanent ones just hold the whip in with two set screws.

If you can tolerate drilling a hole in your roof the permanent ones are awesome. Not to mention they look wayyyyyy better
