I made a rough version of a bee trap I had seen recently and hung it in one of our old sheds. This was a shed my grandfather buit in the late 50's. Bees are always boring into the wood and dive bombing you when you get close.
This is what I caught in three days.

How is the inside constructed that keeps them in the jar?

Not a beekeeper/scientist, but I think it's something to do with the way they "see." My pawpaw used to drill the entrance holes at angles, and once they're in the holes they can't get back out because there isn't any light. Bottom hole is straight, so the light comes through it, and they go in the jar. When they go in the jar, they can't figure out how to get back out.

The holes drilled into the sides are drilled at an upward 45 degree angle this keeps the light out. When they go in the see light at the bottom of the jar so they go down. They never go back up to the darkness.

The reason I'am slow to reply is I am doing this while trying to plant corn before the rain.

Rattlebucket, I'm pretty sure you could limit out pretty quick at the camp with a trap like that. A case of beer and the 1970's model racketball rackets you have is much more fun though.

Been gonna build one of these for a week now. Maybe tomorrow if I don't forget...again. It's been kind of cool here this week, though, and they've slowed down a little bit . On a side note, my yellowjacket queen trap is working. Caught another big queen today using vinegar/sugar water solution for bait. Each queen caught means hundreds less of those evil frickers around our house.

Well lets go do it. I killed a few with the raquets this week but they just keep coming back in droves.

AS far as I know, yes.

Another way is to use a plastic coke bottle. Just drill a hole in the bottom the outside of the cap. Think it's 3/4". Tap cap in hole and then drill a 1/2" thru the center. Screw bottle on. The holes that are drilled on the side are 1/2" at a 45 degree upward angle. Best to use pine boards. Older, the better.

What you doing up BP?

Had strep throat this week and been dead tired. I took a nap when I got home then watched game and couldn't fall back asleep. How ya been? I saw you had some form of surgery recently.

Grandson just went thru that. Me, hanging in there. Had a Hickman line put in. They wanted me back on dubutamine 24/7 again, but after a before right heart cath/ after, I came up short .08 of a % for medicare to pay for it. Also having problems with the bandage that covers the hickman site. Breaking out in a hive. Had that problem before and they had to change to a different bandage all together. It's the reason I am up now. hits burning.
