Don't expect the same trigger as the pistol it cloned, the Walther P99.

ETA Have you ever heard Hickock bash a single firearm?

He may not bash an entire gun, but he will point out what he thinks are flaws. He is not a fan of the single action breaking point on this gun compared to its double action breaking point for example

Great looking gun. Never heard of them before, but read a few reviews also. Very positive reviews. Apparently it's been adopted by the Turkish police and military.

Good review and comments below article.

correct. For the price not bad at all. Beats a Hi Pernt for the price. I wouldn't mind giving one a shot.

Not saying it would replace anything I have, but would be fun to add to the collection.

It appears that the older model double action is only for sale right now. The model # starts with HG2846.

The new single action starts with HG3277. Haven't seen any of those for sale.

1. Internet reviews are 99% garbage. Let me restate that -- 99% of internet reviews (and the ones in gun magazines) are garbage. Hickok45 is "OK," but as was noted, he's really "diplomatic" in his reviews.

2. The recurring theme in the reviews that were posted is "It's a good gun for what it costs." Cost is a really lousy criterion when picking a SD handgun (unless the purchaser's life isn't worth the $525 it would cost to buy a top-tier handgun). Reliability and a decent trigger are crucial.

Just my $.02 worth.

If cost is a factor. G19 wins every time. Great price and excellent firearm.
Buying the Canik is very affordable and I am sure the gun is fun to shoot at te camp etc. But to carry it on the regular I would go with something else. I'm never agaist buying some one buying an affordable gun. Just know it's limits and no matter what go shoot the hell out of it.

I've watched MAC's review on Military Arms Channel and he had some positive and some negative.

I agree partially with dawg in that most magazine reviews of guns are pretty chickenshit. They aren't critical enough on parts that suck and need work. I have slowly framed my channel away from this line of thinking since honesty gives my audience the best information.

There are a few channels built this way (MAC, Nutnfancy, Yeager, TNoutdoors9) and I very highly respect their opinions. I think most people see their information as valuable for the most part.

Now, the biggest criticism of the US model TP9 is that it has a double-action-only trigger with a slide-mounted decocker. This is my exact reasoning for why the Walther P99QA is not a good self defense gun - if the gun is unintentionally decocked, it is completely inoperable. On the standard TP9 and P99, the trigger is double/single action in that the decocker does not rule the gun inoperable. It simply makes the trigger pull longer without taking your gun out of the fight.

If they bring the SA/DA model to the US market, I see it as a great option. But for defensive uses, a man named Murphy usually shows his ugly face when you need to see it the least. I prefer my guns to go bang every time I pull the trigger on a loaded chamber.

So I guess 1911s are frowned upon for home defense

My wife often tells me mine isn't gonna be worth a plugged nickel if I don't quit whatever I'm doing to aggravate her.

Glocks are good for SD. I would also suggest any of the Smith and Wesson M&P handguns (with the addition of the apex trigger kit).

I used to give you some grief about your hardline stance about self defense guns, but I've come around to your philosophy.

In my work, I see guys get arrested for violent crimes. Typically, these guys are of the thug variety. They sag their pants, they wear clothes 4 sizes too big, etc. They carry high capacity sidearms underneath these clothing. Not slim, 7 round pistols. Full size guns. Why? Because they can. It made me realize that, if I'm ever in a bad situation with these types of people, they will have that advantage over me.

Friends of mine in LE have been reporting for the past couple of years that they're seeing more and more of the thugs armed with quality, high-cap handguns.

Apparently their income from drug sales has enabled them to move up from the old "Saturday night specials" to Glocks, M&P's, et al -- and even the occasional 1911.
