Can you have too much test?

Long story short I typically fish inshore with 20lb braided. Is there any benefits of going up to 40 just to have extra strength?

I dont use 40lb braid for strength, I use it for thicker line. Its just easier to deal with, tie, and not as much like piano wire cheese cutter.

I was told it is harder to detect fish on the line (I alternate between spoon and cork).

I agree with AYC, it's easier to deal with while still being very thin. I use 30lb though.
If you're using a cork and a spoon, you should have no problem feeling fish on the line, regardless. But I don't believe that it's harder with heavier line.

To much test can make it tough to break when hung up

You can break the pole before popping the line. It happened to me with 30lb braid on a falcon rod.
15lb braid is all you need for inshore.

^ And plenty thin to give you razor-like cuts when you have wet hands. 20# braid is the lowest I would use inshore. Add 20# Fluor leader and you're set.

I run 30 lb power pro on my casters and my kids spinners. Usually 17lb mono/flouro leader, 3 or 4 feet.
It's just easier to manage as already mentioned.

Funny, I was untangling my buddies braid while line was out. Red fish hit his live mullet on the bottom and sliced one of my digits with surgical precision.

I agree with this for strength needed, but that small diameter can dig bad on a reel (especially baitcaster) if you hook a big fish or otherwise put pressure on it. For that reason, I use mostly 30lb.

Depends on if you are a male or a female. Elevated testosterone effects the sexes very differently

Falcons break period. I'll never buy another one.

Not gonna lie, thought I was opening a thread that related to you asking the OB if you can have to much testosterone
