Virginia buttonweed is not readily controlled by most lawn weed killers. It is one of the most difficult broadleaf lawn weeds to keep in check. A multiple active ingredient lawn weed killer that contains carfentrazone should work best. LSU AgCenter trials indicate that the best products are a combination of 2, 4-D, mecoprop, dicamba and carfentrazone - such as Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone and Ortho or Weed B Gon Max for Southern Lawns.
If the Weed Free Zone does not provide adequate control, a professional option to try is Celsius herbicide. Best control starts in the spring. Make an application of one of these products over the entire lawn in early April and again in early May. You also should expect to make repeated herbicide applications through the summer.
During the summer, the recommended lawn weed killers are more likely to discolor or damage the lawn due to high temperatures. (This is most likely to happen to St. Augustine; centipede, zoysia and Bermuda are less likely to be damaged). ...
Be persistent. In LSU AgCenter research, it often takes four applications of herbicide to keep this weed in check and under control.

Yes that's it. If you don't want it everywhere buy the Celsius. Msma will burn it but it comes rt back. Celsius mixed at its highest rate per instruction label, smokes it.

Do not use MSMA on St Aug. It will kill it indeed.

Anyone used TopShot? It's a MSM herbicide.

Ok thanks. Guess I should spray the whole lawn or just spot spray? If I do the whole lawn is that my weed treatment for the fall or can I still do other stuff along with it.

I've used Image in the past and it worked well for some broad leaf weeds. This should kill button weed as well.

if you're spending the money on Celsius, make sure you pre-treat the lawn with a non-ionic surfactant and add dye to the herbicide to make sure you are getting every square inch of grass.

The small white flower weeds look like chickweed to me.- 2-4-d will kill it.

As in spreading down the ditch to the neighbor's property, or entering the water table?

looks like Doveweed to me. likes to grow in wet, shady areas.

Water table...
I know certain items I've used in the past had stated on the label something about not for use if you are on a well...not sure of the exact wording

Nice buttonweed patch, . I'm not gonna mess with the buttonweed in my lawn at this point. Just gonna nuke it in the spring with some Speedzone.
Pepperidge, I've never heard of a chemical being used so much that it makes its way into the water table, except for MSMA in Florida. The golf courses abundant there were using it mto excess, which is why MSMA is still highly regulated in that state.

You probably had/have army worms that came in and ate the lawn to the point of killing it.
Biferthrin in liquid or granule form for army worms
Now you have button weed and dove weed.
Metsulfuron (msm turf, manor, mansion) or Celsius for button weed. It looks like you have some bahia grass in there which will be killed by both of the products.
Atrazine for dove weed.

I'm dropping a nuke on my backyard and starting over next spring. It's a who's who of weeds. I'll drop some overseed just so the kids don't have to play in the mud this winter and re sod in the spring. It was having trouble with the time to keep it nice and then this wet summer killed me. I lost the war.
