Caddo Parish gun proposal concerns hunting community

First of all, a mile is a long distance. This doesn't affect me, but I know quite a few people that hunt woods that back up to "subdivisions".
Secondly, a subdivision isn't just a gated community. If someone sells 5 mobile home lots off a small tract, it's a "subdivision". Anyone who has driven around out side of town knows those spring up at every rural intersection throughout the parish.

A proposed parish ordinance that could impact where it is legal to shoot firearms in Caddo Parish has many hunters worried.

The ordinance sponsored by Commissioner David Cox would make it illegal to fire a .17 caliber(or larger rifle) gun within one mile of a subdivision. A subdivison is considered a neighborhood with 5 or more lots filed on record at the courthouse.

There are a few exceptions to this proposed ordinance, some of those include: shooting BB guns, shotguns or pellet guns.

It would essentially eliminate gun hunting in Caddo Parish. Could also negatively affect property values in Caddo, as the rec. land category is the primary driver of timberland sales in that area right now. Typical government over reach.

Thats a bit of a stretch but yes it is extreme
Have they ever had any incidents due to hunting near neighborhoods?

What are the odds that this will pass?

There is a lot of opposition floating around on FB, and with other hunters I know.
The rally against it is next Monday at 3:30 right by my office. I may go check it out and report back with pics.

Seriously.
Unless it's actually a problem, the simple solution is to do nothing.
Just another way for them to squeeze more money out of the populace...

Please do. I was hoping to slip in and witness the frickery first-hand but I will be in Houston on Monday and Tuesday.
I dont see this getting very far. Like Gaucho said, there would be virtually no rifle hunting in Caddo Parish.

I'd like to make it over there, but it's nearly impossible to get out of here now a days. I really cant imagine this thing passing, but with the political climate everywhere the way it is, who knows.

If you live or hunt in Caddo, contact your parish commissioner. Here is the link to find your commissioner.
Find your commissioner
Let's add the power of the OB to flood them with calls and emails. It's a silly ordinance that needs to be stopped. Like others have said the definition of a "subdivision" is what is really concerning.

Sounds like a crappy ordinance, but please explain how it "squeeze[s] more money out of the populace" and who gets the money.

Should be fine unless you are close to a military base

UPDATE: Commissioner David Cox called KTBS after the previous story had already been published. He told us that while he did make a proposal at the August 31st meeting regarding a new gun ordinance, he made the wrong proposal. He said the proposal he really meant to bring up would limit the gun usage within 1000 yards of a subdivision.
Cox also said he not only would make restrictions to rifles but any high powered gun that can shoot more than a mile.
fricking douchebag

Anytime a law is created, the only way to enforce it is either by a fine or by the threat of violence.
If you happen to hunt near one of these "subdivisions" and are ticketed, what are your options? Pay the fine or eventually go to jail. And if you don't pay the fine you definitely go to jail.
So yes, it does squeeze unnecessary money from the populace.

From the afternoon hours until after dark, residents living along Green Terrace Road have reported gunshots ringing out from the woods behind their homes, said commissioner David Cox. They’ve also seen lasers from rifles moving across their homes. The wooded area is located in the parish.
It's already against the law to discharge a firearm after dark. This is what happens when people are assholes. Sounds to me like the shooters are being antagonistic and are going to fuk it up for everyone. ON the upside, there's always suppressors. David cox suck a cox bro.

As dumb as this ordinance is, it would pretty silly to think that it's purpose is opening a new revenue stream.

The green pointing laser used by astronomy hobbyists looks a lot like a laser from a rifle.

If there isn't a single problem with the way things currently are, why would they need to implement the ordinance? Besides fear and emotion I can't come to a logical answer for that question.
Law makers should always be asking themselves this one question:
"Is this law worth the price of the threat of violence?"
Just like untaxed cigarettes can get you strangled in NY, any other law can eventually lead to that.
It would be nice if they would use logic and their own brain cells before passing stupid crap like this. If there is no current problem, no law needs to exist.
