You can likely file for your CHP and get that faster than a result from the appeal. The downside to the appeal is it is not necessarily going to "fix" the issue, it'll just tell you why. The only person I know that's successfully done the appeal and come back still gets delayed every single time. Worst part is he already has his CHP, but it's a lifetime one and he didn't know at the time you can't use that one in place of the BGC. Now he's just stuck with always getting delayed with no response.

I’ve bought several guns from Academy and Bass Pro, some I’ve walked out with others I’ve had to wait several days. I asked the salesman why that was and he had no idea, he said probably because of a backlog. The longest I’ve ever had to wait was 3 days.

Still nothing.

Filled out appeal, hopefully hearing something soon.

you wont hear back in the 30 day period and you will have to start the form over again, hoping you get a call back in the next 30 day period.

shop elsewhere. academy's policy is archaic and silly. if you would've shopped anywhere else, you would have the gun by now. everyone will transfer it after 3 business days

No. A straw purchase is any time anyone does what you outlined. The fact you can legally own a firearm is not an exception.

Nah. That is still a straw purchase. Just get the CHP and move on. No more delays.

Might be illegal, but how can someone be caught? Guy buys a gun and say 1 month later he can sell it to anyone in the state without a FFL.

So his buddy buys gun and gives it to him the following day. Who would ever know? If the Feds ever come knocking, he simply bought it from his buddy.

Good plan. Go on a public message board and advocate for committing a federal felony. I believe it is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $100k fine. Enjoy that.

Well posting on a public message board about it would be one way for instance...

Do you have to buy it from Academy?
If it's the price just ask another place if they price match. I got Cabela's to price match a Larry's Pistol and Pawn price on my wife's Shield. Granted it was only $25 but still $25...and I got the rebate too.

I'm so glad I have a very unique name. Being Cajun helps with the names, but I also have my CC permit...and that helps a lot!

The person can be caught under certain circumstances, but I agree the odds are miniscule. However...Risk v Reward. You want to risk your gun rights, prison time and a pile of money for zero reward considering the OP can go to any other gun shop besides Academy and get the gun after the wait period.
