Finally got my wife to agree and she went shooting with me today. She was very anti-gun for a long time, mostly due to personal anxiety. We tried out 3 and she like the Springfield XD 9mm, which was want I wanted.

What could be the cause for a delay? When I purchased my shotgun back in 2005, i also got delayed 3 days. I'm not a must have it now person, but it is a bit perplexing.

Now to decide on what my next gun purchase will be.

I used friend's advice and reading on stuff from this board. Thx guys!

ETA: Called today 6/22 and they said it was still showing delayed. Hopefully I can get it before the end of the week to go shooting.

You couldn't have a common name or the name of a prohibited person. They have to look aittle deeper before the sale can happen

That might be the case, but my last name is french in origin and not that common. Shouldn't my SSN set me apart from anyone else though?

The check system is stupid, your SSN doesn't help, it's insane

Your last name may be flagged even if its not common natiowide it may be more common here. My sister and brother in law one time had an issue not with guns but nonetheless in the parish they were in, another couple with their name had writtem bad checks. Crazy stuff happens. Now what I was told years ago from a dealer was that once you get delayed, then you'll continue to get delayed. How true that is today, I don't know but perhaps some of guys working in the business can shed some light.

Apparently if you look like a Muslim you get out of there with no problems....

It's most likely you have a name similar or identical to someone with a not so good background.

I've been delayed on every gun I've ever purchased that required a background check.

If you wanted to, you could file an appeal to try to find out what is causing the delay.

quote:

A delayed transaction will be purged from the NICS within 88 days from creation. The NICS Section recommends that you wait 30 days from the date initiating the check prior to filing an appeal on a delay to give the NICS Section’s staff time to complete the initial transaction. If your original background check is completed, the Federal Firearm Licensee will be notified with a final status.

Here's some links to help point you in the right direction:

This one gives you all the info you need to know about filing the appeal: https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/appeals/nics-guide-for-appealing

This is the actual appeal form: https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/nics/appeals/nics_vaf_brochure_eng.pdf

Not true at all.

I got delayed on my first 2. No delay for the (many) ones I've bought after

I have a Twic. Been approved wayyy more than denied. Honestly the delays seem pretty random to me.

I got delayed the very first time I bought a gun when I lived in La but never again in La. Lived in Virginia and got delayed every time. It had to be something with the Va state police.

Moved to Washington State and made about 5 purchases there and got delayed on my final purchase there with a shotgun purchase.

I'm now a Texan and haven't bought anything yet but am curious on how it will work out.

If you keep getting delayed you can request a UPIN and that should help.

ETA

I have an FFL 03, have/had a concealed permit every state I've lived, and TSA PreCheck I feel like I should get through the check instantly but that's not how our system works I guess.
