Prayers sent. My uncle died in a boating accident 30 years ago and left behind young children as well.
What kind of boat were they in?

This is a shame. People were driving like complete assclowns in the pass at Fourchon Saturday morning. I've never seen so much stupid in one place. The shrimpers in the pass make it much worse.
Seriously, though, there are way too many people out there that think it is okay to jockey for position in the pass. It's not the damn highway. I had some clown nearly run me up on the jetties only to get in front of me only to slow down because the pass was choppy. There really does need to be a boating safety requirement for ALL boaters regardless of age or experience. Just because you've been driving a boat for years, doesn't mean you've been doing it safely and courteously (which we see is often not the case). I wish they'd pass a requirement to have a boating endorsement on a valid driver's license.

You have to take a boaters safety course if you're born after 80 or 85. It's not much of a class, but it is better than nothing.

Prayers to the families of the injured and deceased and to the friends who are grieving.
some of those turns through the roseau cane in those canals are blind and really tight..I've been really nervous running those before. if two boats are coming at each other as they go through some of those blind corners an accident is likely.

Bighoss was told by a guide down there that a bay boat and a crew boat both came around a blind turn at the same time, you can figure out the rest.......

Brad owned a blazer bay, I'm not sure the size but I believe it was 22 foot. He was a good captain and his lifelong dream was to become a charter captain.

I hear ya man, sucks for all involved some of those turns on our waterways are just a disaster waiting to happen if the boats come around at the same time with some decent speed

Yep, if it happened to Brad, it could have happened to anyone. He was as good of a captain as there is.

Such a shame, you always have to be ready for what is around the corner. It can happen to anyone on the water at any time.

My neighbor is a charter captain in Venice, and wrote a post on this yesterday. So sad to hear. Neighbor fished with him all weekend, and said how surreal it all is. Sorry about your friend, Coot. RIP Brad. Prayers to his family.

passenger has died after a boating accident Monday in Plaquemines Parish. The accident happened between Flat boats Pass and Dead Womans Pass near Pilottown.
I'm very familiar with this area. I'm assuming the accident happened in one of the narrow canals with canes on both sides that have a lot of turns.
I always thought those were some dangerous areas expecially if someone was going too fast and not on the right side of the canal.

If I remember right dead woman's pass is like 10 ft wide and you gotta haul arse on low tide. Very dangerous with blind curves

Flatboat pass where the accident happened was like 15-20 ft wide for a good portion of it (and a lot of blind curves) and yes you have to haul arse on low tide to get out to the rigs. Haven't been in it in a few years so not sure if they dug it out at all.
Looks like they hit one of those aluminum work boat with cabins probably. Sad for these kinds of things to happen.
