Boat Registration

I was given a fiberglass canoe (Gheenoe) that was in really bad shape. Since then I have completely refurbished the boat and plan to use it with a trolling motor only. LDWF says that even with a trolling motor it must be registered. It has a hull ID number, but I have no way of tracking down the previous owners to get a bill of sale etc. Any ideas on how to handle this situation.

Use it on private property, buy another boat, or roll the dice and run it without numbers. I don't think the first time offence is a very expensive ticket.

Go see the State Troopers. They will inspect it, and will give a certificate validating proof of ownership.

Under no circumstances will LSP inspect a boat.
