Does anyone know if you can re-blue a 870 express. The current finish is a matte finish and I don't know if you can use the bluing stuff on top of the matte finish.

I dont think you can either. Not really sure. May have to bead blast it first.

Check into getting it painted with gun Kote. Think is runs around $150 and is durable as hell and looks awesome!

GunKote isnt going to give a blue finish. It will be similar to the matte finish the OP already has on his gun.

I am not too concerned with the look of the gun. Just trying to stop the rust.

a little rust on your gun will help with the tips from the sympathetic sports.

I used DuraCoat on my XD's. And a few of my shooting buddies have used it on shotguns with great results.

brhunt, I'm not sure what type of finish is on your current gun.....sounds like it might be Parkerized. If it's Parkerized, it'll be difficult to blue it w/o first removing the Parkerized finish. OTOH, w/ a number of the synthetic spray on finishes, like Duracote, a pre-existing Parkerized finish can be advantageous for appllying the spray on finish.

If that's all you're concerned with... you can just hit it with a bit of paint. (Maybe some naval jelly first to get the rust off.)

Been wanting to try their shake 'n spray product. I got some a while back to refinish some AR magazines and the paint worked great, tough as hell, but the airspray gun I was using was junk so I was only able to do one before it crapped out.

Current Remington specs don't say exactly what type of finish it is. It only says it's a "non reflective matter finish." I have an 1911 that had similar factory description, but turned out to be Parkerized. Another option would be to have an experienced gunsmith do the job to your specs, whatever you end up choosing.
