Doing a tailgate and want to watch some games on ESPN. Anybody have any recommendations on the best way to do this? Only options I know if:
Get a satellite/direct TV and pay as you go or add on to your current plan
Get a mobile hotspot from Verizon etc and have wifi to stream from laptop
Stream from watchespn app on phone and connect phone to HDMI on TV. Data $$$

Not sure if this is for the OB, but we use the DISH Tailgater for our tailgate set up. It is kind of pricey at $70/mo but we also have the extended sports package so we can watch all of the games. It is easy and convenient and we only use it for 3 months. If you already have DISH I would definitely recommend that. I am not sure if DirectTV has a comparable set-up.
I toyed with the idea of getting an Apple TV and a Hotspot and just airplay games from the WatchESPN app but I didn't want to have to worry about slow data on big games when there are a lot of people on campus.

I have Dish at home and unlimited data on my iPad. HDMI adapter to tv from iPad and Dish app. Every now and then I get a glitch, but I'm able to watch anything I can at home.

The major downside to a hotspot or streaming from your phone is the data. I know some universities set up mobile cell towers on game weekends to help with the traffic, but I wouldn't rely on that to make sure you have a solid connection. Satellite is good. If you already have an account, you can buy another dish and tell them you have an RV and just take a box with you. Set up can be time consuming, but once you get it dialed in, you have great TV all weekend.

Apple TV no doubt. We've never had an issue with buffering or picture quality.

No wifi/internet at tailgate location. OP could set up shop in a starbucks parking lot.
You wont be able to watch all games but an outdoor TV antenna (the flat square ones) would give you some games

I would hate to rely on cellular data all day during game day
It will work fine in the morning but as the crowds build the service degrades quickly, at least on my phone it does.

We just found a buddy that cancled his direct tv and he gave us his old dish. We bought a stand for it and just bring our box from home. I have never notified Direct Tv that we do this and have never had a problem. We just found a spot for the dish on the sidewalk and set it up in that exact spot every game day. We can pretty much have it locked in on the satellite without even having to adjust it.
