I have a ladder stand locked to a tree with a cable and padlock. I need to move said stand but the lock is rusted up and I'd like to spare the cable and lock if I can. I used WD40 and it didn't do anything. Key won't budge in the lock. Any other suggestions?

Kroil always works

Eta: if you're not concerned with the actual lock (which you shouldn't be) bolt cutters should get through it .

I would have liked to save the lock too, but that may be too much to ask.

I didn't know if you guys had another lubricant suggestion that may work

Ok. Maybe I won't be such a cheapass and I'll just buy another lock

Hit it with a hammer
Soak it with good penetrant or acetone/ATF mix
Hit it with a hammer again
Undo it

If he's gotta go buy something he might as well just buy a new lock

Yeah, I saw it. I'll give it a try and if that doesn't work I'll cut the lock. Thanks

Breakfree clp. Gets rusty things moving.

If it works on crimping pliers used in a salty offshore enviroment it will work on anything. Not only that but they stay moving after repeated use.

Second option: kroil

I work for a lubricants company

If you don't have at least two of these cans, you suck at life as a man.

I ordered a case of the king size cans about 6 years ago and have 3 of the regular sized cans. I figure I'm good for about 30 years or so...
