So thinking of getting another lab after this hunting season and probably going to have to use a trainer due to work schedule.
Any recommendations for good trainers of duck dogs in an hour of the NS?

TIA

Ive heard good things about Mark Smith in Norco. I believe he trains in the spillway.

You could also look into getting a finished dog, might be cheaper in the long run and cuts out some of the unknowns with purchasing a puppy.

For what it's worth I've never purchased a finished dog. I have hunted with a number of dogs that were bought as finished products and all of their owners were happy. I've trained a handful of pups so I'm well aware of the unknowns involved.

Mark Smith is a very good trainer. Also in same breath would agree on buying a finished dog if possible. Chance of getting a good hunting is almost guaranteed buy getting a finished dog. With a pup and a pro trainer you still are gambling.

Lab puppies are fun to watch grow, but I also agree on buying at least a started year old lab. Figure in $800-$1000 for a well bred pup, then $3000-$4000 for 6 months at a good trainer, plus vet and feed cost. You can get a nice started dog with somewhat of a guarantee that he will hunt.

A few thoughts....

Mark Smith is likeley hands down best trainer in the state not just more orleans/north shore area. However he specializes in field trials but he does train gun dogs.

My second would be chuck McCall towards Baton Rouge. All hunt test/gun dog training.

Third is Bart posey as previously mentioned at wonderlab in picayune.

Tied for third would be Ricky Elston with southern tide kennels in Slidell.
