Spray the weeds out then fertilize? Or fertilize and spray the weeds out three or four weeks from now?
I don't believe in Weed & Feed.

Second question......does a dogs feces & pee damage Bermuda sod?

Spray the weeds first. No point in fertilizing grass right now while majority of it is still dormant.

Not sure on the dog poop, but the pee is high in nitrogen and will burn most grasses including Bermuda.

Yeah we have a patch of Bermuda that I can't eradicate out of my St Aug lawn ( ) and it doesn't stand a chance when our dog pees on it.

I'll post this question here instead of a new thread. Is 24d safe for centipede and st Augustine? My front yard is a mixture.

I'm pretty ignorant about lawn care but why has none of my several Labs's urine burned up any of my lawn's? In some yards it looks like you just poured straight round up on the spots

I know the more hydrated the dogs are, the less damage it does. Less nitrogen in the urine.

If that's the case let me know your trick! Everytime I turn around my 2 have emptied theirs!

Spray the spots with a bioactivator product to try and neutralize the salts.

No, 2,4-D is not safe on them. However, some products with a very low rate of 2,4-D will get away without killing them.
The safest products for broadleaf control are dicamba at a really low rate, MSM at about 1/3 oz, or atrazine.

Thankfuylly I live in the country where folks dont think ya yard aughta manicured like ya living room carpet. It aint a golf course its a yard. All the stuff yall talkin about getting rid of are welcome in my yard including clovers and anything else wants to grow. When daises or clover are blooming I often leave a patch when I mow just cause I think its pretty. I have St Aug, bermuda, centipede, doller weed, clovers all growing together all happy and park looking.

I figure amy the best grass win.

i don't know about 24d but i do know about celsius wg
i never see this recommended on here, but i love this stuff.
got hammered with virginia button weed last year and celsius wiped it out.killed everything i have tried on so far.
safe for st aug, bermuda and centipede.

expensive upfront, but you only need a teaspoon per gallon of water,so cost per application is low and will last ages.
can also use over 85 degrees while others will kill your grass with high temps.

next get a pre-em

LINK

Prodiamine is my choice for pre-em,a generic barricade.

these 2 products will last you for ages and leave you doing minimal weed work.

feb 1st spot treat weeds
march 1st pre-em
april 1st fertilize with milorganite.

i have centipede in front,st aug side of house and 1/2 st aug and bermuda in back which i will turn full bermuda over the spring/summer.

24D kills broad leafs not grasses. You can spray it on St Augustine.

You can spray it on centipede too but 2,4-d manufacturers warn not to apply when temps are above 90, below 50 or during the spring green-up.

2-4d is fine on centipede. Just not above 90 degrees.

Certain breeds produce more nitrogen in their urine than others.

Bermuda is mostly out of dormancy now in most of South Louisiana.

I know everybody wants to spray for weeds now but most of the weeds you see today are cool season weeds and will not last till summer especially if you fertilize your yard and mow frequently.

Put high nitrogen fertilizer on now--the cheapest is something like ammonium sulphate or ammonium nitrate. Those are either 33% or 34% nitrogen. I suggest 3 lbs or 34-0-0 per 1000 square feet every 6 weeks or so through the summer.

You may need some P and K and the best way to find out is to send a soil sample to LSU. It is free or almost free. Follow their recommendation from the sample on subsequent applications.

If you fertilize bermuda grass as much as it needs to be you will have few weed problems as they will not be able to compete with the grass. Mow very frequently and keep your blades short.

If you still have weeds May 1 then spray any number of broadleaf weed herbicides.

No.

Unless you are very accurate in your application of 2,4 d on centipede and you probably aren't because you probably do not have equipment to be so accurate then don't use it.

Mow aggressively and as it warms up see if the weeds are still there.

I planted some centipede last fall and it is a thin stand and I have lots of weeds but I am not going to spray. I am mowing every week right now just keeping the weeds down and when it warms more that centipede will grow in and the weeds will go away.
