$250 after rebate on PSA

probably be better off spending money on ammo but that seems like a good deal for a good pistol.

anybody have one?

No, but I know someone that does and he seems to really like it. Those things are flying out the door of the mothership.

I remember when the first Shields came out at a $250 price point. I wish I had bought ten of them.

At one point you could walk in the mothership and get a combo package base PSA 18" AR15 and a Shield for under $700 combined. It was the best deal going. I saw men in there laying down rolled coins and $1 bills buying those packages at the "cash only" register.

We may be about to see those days again soon.

Excellent pistol. Excellent.

Pros:

Ergos and reliability are top notch.

Accuracy is the best from a stock polymer frame pistol I've seen.

Trigger is almost flat and has a weird kind of soft reset, but is still quite good.

Slide serrations are best on the market.

Optics cut out of the box.

Good grip adjustibility for variety of hand sizes.

Minimal felt recoil due to grip depth.

Good out of box night sights (tritium at front, blacked and serrated on back).

Can change grip/frame colors cheaply due to chassis system.

Cons:

Finish on barrel is not great (not slide just barrel, but who cares).

Holster availability is probably the worst on the market for a major company and a mass productction pistol like this. It's beyond terrible.

Apax A1 mags are not the cheapest. But OG APX mags will fit perfectly, but are a bitch to load. Probably run about $25-$30.

Takedown lever will interfere with some shooters grip and be slightly annoying.

Have to buy optics plates direct from Beretta. Not cheap at $50+.

Overall thoughts

If there were decent retention/light holster availability and aftermarket support for this platform, it would be a top 3 duty type pistol on the market.

However, there is almost zero aftermarket support for it.

In saying that, you can find holsters, they are just not cheap, and this is a far superior alternative to Glock knockoffs and 2nd world import guns to carry in a truck, toolbox, utility vehicle, tractor, home invasion spot, etc. Hell, if you holster it would be an ideal farm/woods carry weapon.

For $250 its a steal. It should be selling for twice that.

Im not any sort of pistol expert but the original apx is the best pistol I have ever shot. it fits my hand perfectly. when these were on sale a while back I thought about getting one but the grip seemed a little different which worried me. might go ahead and order 1.

I saw this one in this week's email, $329 after rebate. Considering for one I could suppress eventually.

BERETTA APX A1 COMPACT TACTICAL 9MM 4.2" 15RD PISTOL, BLACK/OD GREEN

Anyone have experience with this one? Wife wants a smaller one to carry, I like acquiring more in general.

Is there a big difference in the original APX? I have one of these in my safe and I think I’ve out a mag or two through it. I remember trying to find a holster for it and they weren’t many options so I gave up.

I feel this anytime she walks by my computer and sees PSA daily deals open I get the whole "you told me to quit spending money!"

My typical response is "yeah but it's on sale. I can't pass up a good deal!" That's what she tells me

I think the biggest difference is the grip.

Grip is modified slightly, but they only took off the finger grooves.

The biggest differences are the new slide serrations (they got rid of the hideous Toblerone cuts) and the trigger is much better/softer.

If the A1 improvements had been made on the original APX, it would have clearly been the best choice for the USG sidearm trials that Sig won with the M17/18. The Beretta is just a superior duty grade weapon in almost all aspects.

finger grooves worked great for me. for whatever reason the original apx just fits my hand like a glove. interested to see how the apx-1 does. I want to say I bought the trigger kit from beretta for the original apx.

The A1 grip is great, too. The A1 also uses the same trigger kit the Apx offered, only its from the factory that way. Thr trigger should feel just like the upgraded APX.

I've got the first generation APX. I've put a couple of thousand rounds through it. It's supremely reliable and shoots everything without a hiccup, including steel.

Here's the rub. I find the gun difficult to shoot and inaccurate but I'm not that great of a shot either. From a reliability standpoint, you won't be disappointed.

I kinda like the toblerone slide cuts. Looked distinctive at least.

Well I'm not sure I have the correct answer to that question, but this will be my fourth

Just ordered one. Hopefully it will come in in time for me to submit the rebate. It requires serial numbers, etc...

Supposedly the APX did 10,000 rounds in the military or Beretta demo trials (can't remember which one) without a malfunction. The A1 functions just the same.

I've actually seen the A1 malfunction with a big mailbox optic on it, but that's with dogshit Ammo, Inc. rounds that malfunctioned every platform at the range that dsy, including Glock, CZ, etc, so take that how you will.

If anyone wants a decent TLr-1 compatible holster, here is one for the APX that will fit the A1 as well. It's just going to be a little tight for the first month or so. Heat gun will also lossen it up a bit.

LINK

It's only $35. The belt clips suck, but they can be replaced very easily with better ones.

Ordered last Thurs walked out with it today from FFL. A few observations, they look like they packed it in the box during a fire drill or 2 mins before their weekend started. Oil slathered all over. Mags dirty. No paperwork/owners manual, not that I care but usually brand new firearm in the box ya get that. Comes with 2 17 rd mags and the pistol is oiled too much. Trigger feels fine. Its an absolute brick with a full mag loaded. Need to break it in. Already a few scratches near the ejection port just from working the action upon inspection
