I've got a camp in Leeville and catch specks and reds all day every day. Well my son joined a bass fishing club at school and we have been trying bass fishing lately. I can't catch a damn thing. Not a nibble in Henderson this morning lol. I like catching more than fishing. Is it suppose to be this hard?

Henderson is tough I find. I wait for the buzz about the water being right before I fish it.

it was tough out there this morning...
I got two small ones and some medium sized gar...
I gave the sac a lait hell for a good hour or so in a canal I've caught them in before and not a sniff...
hey...I got my string pulled...

last week I did well out there...

I understand they are catching some towards the west levee south of I-10...

amaco canal is what I'm told...and fishing main lake points where the drains (cuts) run into it seems to be what most are doing...

water is getting low...9' on the Pelba gauge...down from 14' during the rains

Everything is hard before it becomes easy. You did a good thing and ruled out unproductive areas.

Think like a fish.. Shade, water clarity, current, depth and structure. Pay attention to those things while you are on the water and you will start putting the puzzle together. Keep a log and repeat the patterns year after year.

Second are the lures. In the basin it is simple. Either they are chasing or they want it slow. Spinner bait, crank bait, top water, worm or jig.

After 3 years of fishing my new to me area I am just now becoming consistent. You can have a lucky day and think you are the shite but it takes work to catch a bag every trip. Excited to hear the Son is on a fishing team. I can't wait until mine decides to join one.

If I can be of any help to your Son or the team, just holler

Last time I went to Henderson was a couple weeks ago, and I did well. But the water has dropped significantly since then. They were schooling and caught most of my fish in the Phillips canal area on points and drains.

Top lures were chug bug for topwater (and they were hitting it all day, not just in the morning), and Tx rig Yum Dinger in watermelon seed color. Also caught a couple on frog in one area that had some grass, a a couple on a squarebill. But I couldn't tell you what they are doing right now. I would still be targeting drains.

Late summer can be pretty tough if you can't find some schoolies to chase when you get tired of grinding. It should get better in the next few weeks as we transition into fall.
