Why do you think .42/.45 is even relevant? The percentage of alcohol, of the whole, was reduced to 42%.

i just did. .42/.45=6.6667

NEW divided by OLD x 100= percent
.42 divided by .45 x 100= 6.67%

Can you give a reason for dividing .42 by .45?

to find the percent difference
it's just like a percent yield equation in chemistry. it's to find the new percent difference from the original.

if the original is .45 and the new is .42 it's a -6.67% change

I sure as hell don't. I'd love to know why that is a relevant division.

Oh, well that's fine, but this all started with

3% of 45% is about 7% less alcohol. #mindblown

It's not 7% less alcohol.

I would have thought you would have had to go to the rant to turn a bourbon discussion into a math quiz.

If something weighs 42 pounds, how many percent less is it than something 45 pounds. Not 3%.

You are talking about two different things. Alcohol by volume and total alcohol in a bottle.
