A government report discovered the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) illegally stockpiles gun owners’ personal information. The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), the go-to federal oversight agency, conducted an audit of ATF and found it does not remove certain identifiable information, despite the law explicitly mandating it do so. GAO conducted reviews for four data systems, and concluded at least two of ATF’s systems violated official protocols.

I, for one, have unquestionable faith in the federal government's accountability to itself as well as to the citizens.

Why am I not surprised. Hopefully this is just them not keeping up with the policy and not them storing information for ulterior motive.

Meh, I think it's a much greater chance of incompetence than intentionally breaking the law. As I understand it, the only information submitted is your name and social, all the other information only stays on the paper 4473, which have to be stored on site by the FFL for a long time. If anyone wanted to build a gun owner database then getting those paper files would be the only way, and it would be rather obvious if someone started doing that.

It's not surprising. That's why I buy used and new. They can take some. I'll still have enough. It's like sgt major plumley said in "we were soldiers" referring to the m16, something along the lines of "if I need one, there will be plenty lying around". Don't remember the exact words but you can always pluck something off the dead. I pray to God it never comes to that, but honestly you never know.

Go figure. All the naive souls who thought their benevolent government would just give up and not keep this information.

You do realize there are millions of suppressors out there now. The last day before 41F took effect Silencershop sent in 10K form 4's. IF FEDGOV decides they want to start confiscating then they are going to have to deal with a million + pissed off people.

So, we have made it through all the orders through the 11th and most of the 12th. Over 1200lbs of Form 4’s and trusts off to the ATF. Over 2 million dollars in tax stamps alone. This is the largest number of Form 4’s ever sent to the ATF in one day, ever

The FBI know if it was a handgun or long gun from the NCIC phone call. They are also supposed to destroy that information within 24 hours, but I am skeptical.

Another thing to consider is when an FFL turns in their licence, they must turn in their log books/acquisition and disposition books, computer printouts, 4473’s, theft/loss reports, multiple sales reports, and Brady forms

You do realize once the Government has your SS# they have everything about you right? How easy is it for them to connect thebATF data with the IRS and know everything they need to.

I highly doubt in this administration and their urge to end the second amendment this is an accident.

You go ahead and feed your unicorns and believe it is though.
