Are you brand loyal with ammo

I'm fairly new to gun ownership as I have mentioned before on here. I had been purchasing the same practice rounds at Walmart and personal defense rounds from Bud's when I would go to the range there.

When the ammo hysteria started, I didn't have a stash, and had a hard time finding any. So, I started buying what I could find, just to have some I could shoot and keep practicing. I now have a small amount of CCI Blazer/Winchester/Remington.
I haven't shot the Blazer or Remington yet, so I don't have a personal opinion about them.

Anyway, are you brand loyal with ammo for your guns, or do you try different brands for a reason, or just buy whatever you can find regardless of brand? What about personal protection ammo, what do you like/dislike?

I see several brands online that I have never seen in stores and don't know how to tell what's good and not good when I'm looking to purchase. TIA.

re: Are you brand loyal with ammo
I usually buy Winchester white box to practice with, and recently went all in with Speer for hollow points for the self defense rounds. \

But for the most part, I really don't care what I shoot when I practice. I dont fire thousands of rounds down any particular weapon, not yet anyway, and as long as I get reliability out of my carry ammo, I am going to shoot whatever is cheapest on the range.

For practice, I really don't care.

For carry ammo, I carry hornady critical duty.

only for my deer bullets. they've been excellent for over 10 years, im sticking with them

not sure how i could be "brand loyal" with defense rounds unless i actually end up using them or getting some ballistics gel (both are pretty damn unlikely). but i have speer gold dot. hear theyre quality rounds

No loyalty. Just whatever shoots the best out of my guns.

For plinking, then I will shoot anything as long as it isnt corrosive.

For the most part I buy Win ammo but I'm not stuck to just it.

For my pistol I'll target shoot with anything that it will feed, which is pretty much everything. I just buy whatever I can get a good deal on. For SD I've switch over from the Critical Duty's to the Gold Dots.

I find standard velocity rounds to shoot more accurately out of my speedmaster. 17hmr I like CCI full metal jackets. They're really accurate and don't destroy a squirrel, but with body shots it may take them a second or two to realize the games over.

As far as brand loyalty once I find something that works I don't frick with it unless they stop making it.

Tried several types and my rifle didn't group them well. Best ammo mine will shoot is Federal Long Rifle solids and Remington Golden bullets but half of the golden bullets misfire the on the first pass through.

Its not brand loyalty per se. I know what my guns like to eat and try to stick with that.

re: Are you brand loyal with ammo
It's be worth looking at Federal (ATK) LE website for ballistic gelatin tests with HST ammo.

There are data from 8-10 reports, using calibrated 10% gelatin, with various barriers (denim cloth, vehicle glass, steel, sheetrock, plywood, etc.) comparing HST with various loads. All firng was done by agency personnel -- Federal reps were on hand to observe and write reports.

Gold Dot = very good stuff (as was Hydra Shok ( EFMJ in their day). But there's better stuff out there today.

So far, nothing is better (penetration & expansion) than the HST -- despite what one or two other members post here every couple of weeks.

Are you capable of posting without taking a jab at other's posts that don't align with yours?

re: Are you brand loyal with ammo
Ok, follow up question. Several of you mention "it's what my guns like to eat" type of comments. How do you determine that? Is it only if you have FTE/FTF issues or what? My default is that if the gun fires it and ejects the casing, I'm good. Honestly, I'm looking for education here, just trying to understand from those with more experience.

Also, some mention changing self defense ammo, is that for the same reason?
