Only have one tractor up at the camp this year, so wondering if a set of discs that attach to ATV would be worth it

We bought a set from tractor supply a few years ago. They cut better than I thought they would. They are worth the money imo

I don't. They usually have a few sets out in the parking lot. I will run by the shop later and see if there is a sticker on them

I have one made for a garden tractor that we added a ball hitch to. It came from Sears back in the 80's I believe. It does a good job, but uses odd size parts that are hard to find spares for.

So weird you made a post about this. I've been researching for the past two weeks. Here is what I've come up with.

You also have to buy the implement lift (manual or auto) which allows you to travel with the implement off the ground.

Black boar seems to have the best quality product. I am currently trying to decide between the disc or the chisel plow. I'm convinced the chisel plow will break up more soil vs the disc, but I can' pull the trigger for some reason. Just my thoughts.

I would hang a root and have those things bent in no time

Haha, You are right.
I haven't thought of that scenario.
Maybe a short drop would work ok?

Used a set a couple years ago and bent the hell out of my receiver hitch. If it's dry and you have loose dirt with no stumps or roots it might work, but I'd try to stick with the tractor discs.

Good stuff. Thanks for the link. Didn't think about having to buy the lift as well.

Manual seems it could do the trick good enough to save $400

I used on this weekend. It is a pretty heavy one. The fields had not been touched all year so it took pulling the disc over the fields for 30-45 minutes. They were in pretty good shape by the time I was done. Pretty much had to keep my foreman in 1st, 2 wheel drive.
This disc was the kind that had wheels on one side and you flipped it over to disc.
I do not recall seeing a brand name.

I have this exact set. They work really well. I add a little weight to them to get them to cut better.

This is a good point. I wouldn't pull one with the crappy little hitch on most bikes. I had to add a beefed up receiver on my Foreman.

I pull mine with a Honda Foremen 500. does good. the fan will kick on because it will run your 4 wheeler a little hot so make sure your fluids are full.

my plot is graded and smooth. I spray and then come back a week later and mow it down yes with my riding lawn mower. let it sit for about 2 weeks then come back and disc it with my 4 wheeler and disc.

I spray it so its easier to pull the disc through dead grass then live grass

I spray as well on annual plots. I don't mow it though. Just disc it till its all cut in. Takes more passes with the disc, but I cant get a riding mower in there and don't have a bushhog I can use. tried it with a push mower and it about killed me.

We used to use a pull behind set at our camp that worked pretty good. We did have to add extra weight to them.

A buddy of mine uses and swears by the Ground Hog Max. Supposed to be more maneuverable than the traditional pull behind style, and he said you can move pretty damn fast.

Also don't need to add weight since it users the weight of the ATV and rider/riders.

I have a ground hog I use with my Ranger and it cuts up ground really well. Really pleased withn it. It uses the weight of the ATV\SxS to dig down.

Ive been researching this all day and came here to look. I have a Honda Pioneer UTV and the Groundhog Max will break the hitch in a hurry based on reviews. I also noticed the Black Boar looked solid. Im sure the ones Bass Pro has for $1k+ are decent but Im not willing to fork out that much.

I have a Groundhog Max that has only been used a few times. It's just collecting dust at the camp. If anyone knows where I can get rid of it, email me at rebbeertd@gmail.com

Ground hog max bent my receiver hitch up in to the rear differential on my Polaris ranger. I will never use it again. I have been using a pull behind since with no problems. a buddy has been using my ground hog on his grizzly 4 wheeler with no issues. Maybe it's a better hitch or less weight?
