They are still pretty small, but the feathers on their wings are developing so they are taking flight.
How long until you can be standing over and looking right at them & they still scare the shite out of you when they take off?

Well at 5 weeks, all birds are still alive. I picked up about 300 crickets over the weekend and dumped them in the pen and the quail went nutz. They are currently fat and happy.

Can we get an update wick?
I have the chance to grab 3 hens and a cock. Hens are laying. Guy uses them to just release here and there for people and does some pickling with the eggs.

All of them are still alive and doing quail things. I will try to get some pics later. They are looking almost like full sized birds with scraggly looking feathers at this point.

Went out to check the birds last night. I had previously had one get out when my son was feeding the birds, so I was at 22.
Walked out and there were dead birds everywhere and one big tom cat in the pen. One bird was still alive, it was rescued. I moved it to a smaller pen and another bird walked up a short time later. The escaped bird must have gotten out during when the cat got in. There was no visible opening. The pen was surrounded by 1" square plastic netting held together with zip ties.
The car was a dropoff, to the best of out knowledge. We had seen it on the other side of the neighborhood at night. So mad.

Get burlap sack
Put said cat into burlap sack
Put bricks and/or rocks into burlap sack
Secure open end of burlap sack with a zip tie
Toss burlap sack into nearest body of water

We had a large 8' gator show up and hasn't left. I thought long and hard about that option last night...

that's a tough pill to swallow. That fricking cat went in there and killed those birds for joy.
Think about that
