Do any of you own land that you hunt that's more than 2 hrs away from where you live? Is it worth all the work that it takes to manage a piece of property so far away?

My main hunting locale is 1.5hrs away from me. It was cool when we stayed down there a lot, but now I don't have the time and day hunts suck driving that much. Not to mention the gas.

My family's land is 45 minutes away. I recommend to own land between house and pleasure (ie beach).

For example, I live in Tuscaloosa, land is in Hale County and go to the beach in OBA/Perdido Key, Fl

My family's land is 3.5 hours away from where I live. It makes it a little more difficult to get out there as often as I'd like. I've often said that 2 hours away would be ideal. That would make it just worth it to spend the weekend instead of driving back and forth.

Mine is 1:55 away. It's worth it because it's mine. I hunt it and stay down there a few weekends in a little shack/camp.

That said, I also have a lease about 25 minutes from my front door to tree stand. I really like having it for days/weekends when I'd have to come back for something like a big LSU game or a take my kids to a birthday party.

We bought a couple hundred acres 2 hours from home last year. It's not bad at all imo.

Having said that, any further and it would make running up there for a day a real hassle

I have a place 1hr35mins away. We looked at many places around 2 or 2.5hrs away and we really didn't feel like it was worth it. It would feel like a chore going each time.

Our land is 2:15 min away. Find someone local who can help and share the hunting with them. We have 600 acres and have a guy who lives down the street that we let him hay the place in return he helps us with food plots, discing and keeping people off of it. Having the right equipment and access to it on the weekends is the key. Rental places do not have great hours on the weekends and this helps without having to rent a tractor etc etc. It will take you about 2 years to get the place the way you want it with stands, patterning deer, getting sloughs and water levels right. Depending on your check book! Our biggest lesson has been, Buy Quality not quantity! Things that will last and use over and over like sprayers, stands, cleaning stations etc etc. Just remember its yours FOREVER. Take your time and enjoy it.

Mine is 2 hours from New Orleans; if you live in a smaller town off the coast it should be easier to find good land close to home.

I enjoy going up there, so I don't mind the drive; but I do try to get as much done each trip and avoid going for one little thing.

And thieves are harder to catch the further away you live...

4 hrs - I've been fighting rednecks for years.

I'm in DFW and our family land is on the border of Lincoln/Union parish surrounded on three sides by a hunting club which has a bunch of yahoo's and ran dogs until the timber company shut em down.

I'll set my stuff up, come back a couple of weeks later and my stand is gone, or there's cig butts on the ground on and on and on

It sucks - nearly got in a fight 3 yrs ago on my own land with a trespasser

Where in Hale County? I'm originally from Eutaw. I hunt my mom's land in Boligee, but my dad's family has some land in Hale County not far across the Black Warrior from Eutaw, kind of near Sawyerville

I own 10 acres that's just under 2 hrs away from me. It's on North Toledo Bend just north of Converse. I'll build a house on it one day but just hunt there now. I slip down there at least once a month. Awesome to have a place that I can get away from everything for a tank of gas.

We own a place about 2 hours 20 minutes and though it's a lot of work. It's well worth it. For me location is everything.

2 hours is nothing, drive it damn near every weekend and a lot of times during the week.

8 hours...live in South Florida, land is in Dale and Henry counties in Alabama. My cousins and I own 650 acres of farm/woodland that we share. It is tough to keep it up sometimes. I'm limited on when I can get up there to work on food plots and stands. My wife and I just bought 27acres and a house about three miles away from the properties, so we'll spend more and more time up there until we retire there.

Two hours for me. 2.5 is max for frequent trips. 1 to 1.5 hours would be ideal. The further you get the more and more NEIGHBORS matter. If u have crappy neighbors you need to be there more. Close or far I would not knowingly buy any land that i knew the neighbors would be a problem.
