Wanting to upgrade from my bay boat to a offshore model boat as I mainly fish offshore or beaches for trout and tired of getting beat up in a chop. Would also open up snapper/cobia/tuna as well for me which I love just only charter a few times a year now. Been looking hard at 25-27'world cats as I wont have to sell a kidney to buy one and they don't draft terribly much more water than my current blazer bay as well as have twins for reliability for offshore. Not a super fast boat but from initial research seem like they are well made and handle well. Anyone with first hand experience on one that can offer some insight?

My neighbor and a few friends had/have one. Fished in them many times. It's definitely a pure offshore boat and is a great boat to run a family around in. They ride well and are very fishable with a nice cockpit.
You wouldn't want want to trout fish out of it.

Was another plus, I'm paranoid with little boux on the front or rear deck of mine now as only a few inches of gunnel keeps him in the boat.

Why do you say that, gunnels seem lower than alot of deep v's and most dont have bow rails?

Those gunnels are pretty high, especially on the bow. I mean, you certainly could trout fish out of it, but it wouldnt be optimal. If youre just hanging around the coast (surf, rigs, etc.) it would make it a lot easier.

I have a friend with an older world cat. He does everything with it from tuna to trout. He has an I pilot on the front and it's a fishing machine.

Makes me question my bay boat every time I fish with him.

Was thinking of an ipilot as well. Does It track well and spot lock good? Seen on the hull truth that guys were putting them on Freeman's so figured it should work.

Yes it works beautifully. He uses it for snapper and trout with spot lock.

World Cats are a nice boat. One just has to learn how to run a cat rig.

I owned a 266sf center console for two years and loved it. Wouldn't feel the seas till they hit 3' and the boat got 2mpg with the 175 four strokes I had. Combine that with 240 gallons of fuel and that thing had range. It was also nice having an offshore machine that could get in 3' of water.

Just be warned she was a heavy bastard coming in around 9,000 lbs full of fuel and ice ready to fish. Had it on a triple axel trailer. Had a top speed in the low 40's with a 28-30 mph cruise at 4200-4400 rpm. I was under propped though as I could hit the rev limiter. Should be a 50 mph boat with 400 hp and the right props. I believe they changed the name to the 270 from the 266 around 2002 and also upped the hp limit to 450. Also the higher hp rated boats can take the weight of 4 strokes without the addition of aluminum brackets.

I saw a guy trout fishing at the mrgo rocks in a freeman. I'd never really thought about the concept until then. You definitely wouldn't have to watch the weather too hard with that thing.

I didn't realize they made trolling motors long enough for those boats.
