Did the youth lottery with my son a few years back in the marsh. Great hunt for all the youth

I went when I was 15. Killed my limit in ducks and geese in 30 mins. My dad was able to get an article and picture of us in the advocate. This was 20 years ago.

Shhhhhh

But if you apply go for the Marsh hunt, it is fully guided and generally really good hunting, pretty cool experience, check out the lodge and hear the stories of how the place was in it's hayday when the oil companies used it to wine and dine, I can only imagine the stories that the walls could tell, Rice field is a do it your self kind of thing and while last year was decent the rice fields have been struggling the last few years

The youth hunt is legit, great experience

I participated as a youth when I was probably 10 years old. Stayed at the lodge the night before, it was awesome. I hunted in the Masrsh and limited out quickly. Have wondered the past few years if the lottery was still a thing.

its been slow the last few years and its 350 for the hunt if you get picked. better off just doing a regular guided hunt

So the marsh is completely guided? Just show up with gun and shells?

The $350 is for two hunters?

Chances of getting picked are slim to none. But if you are fortunate enough to be pulled, it is an excellent experience … some of the best duck hunting in the state.

Teal, mottlted, mallards, and greys

Had a few groups of pintails buzz but did not kill any

Plenty of spoonies around , we passed but would of shot them if we had not limited so quickly

Went on the rice hunt second towards the end of season last year. My group killed three and it was the most killed out of all the groups.

Marsh is historically some of best in state, but not what is used to be. Still can be very good, though fewer on mallards than in the past.

Have done the rice a few times with decent success but I hear it's been even more sporadic, VERY weather dependent.

The marsh hunts in teal season can be very good as well, done it a couple of times.

Like others have said, I did the youth hunt 15 years or so ago. Green jeans guide let me shoot a green head when he was out looking for a teal that I sailed 250 yards into the marsh, he yelled take em and he let me come back with 6 after the sail
