Just wanted to get a thread started up. I have set up my first reef tank and have already ran in to some issues.

I got the Ich. Just as my tank started growing a ton of coralline, Ich showed up. I have everyone in a Quarantine tank on a cupramine treatment for the next month to eradicate ich from them and the main tank. I lost my blenny due to this transfer. He stopped eating and 5 days later saw him floating.

Once all fish were in quarantine i have had a bad green algae bloom. And I want to put some cheato in my sump. Anyone in BR want to give me some?

As of now I have:
2 clowns
1 blue hippo
1 flame angle
1 yellow watchman goby(all in the Quarantine tank)

In the main tank i have:
Duncan Coral frag
grenish/yellow zoa frag
2 cleaner shrimp
1 yellow pistol shrimp
tons of snails
4 or 5 hermit crabs

Main reason i started this was for the cheato but we can keep this thread if people want to talk about their tanks. here are some pics.

That looks awesome. I have always wanted a tank but I hear the maintenance is a total bitch to put up with.

I had a 200 gallon reef for years. It went in the divorce.

There is a reef club in Louisiana that is a very good resource. LARC
There are many members from all over the state. I'm sure several in your area have some cheato for you. It grows like a weed. Try for a couple of different macro-algaes. It will help more with stability.

I had intentions of mine being a reef tank but just about all the frags i have bought in the last two years have died. I have a 125 gallon tank with 30 gallon sump. Currently have an algae problem and just have one kenya tree for coral. Fish i have:

1- blue hippo tang
1- yellow tang
1- Flame angle
2- Banghi Cardinals
1- bicolor dotty back
2- clown fish

I had one set up for 3 years at my apt, but I lost it all due to a fire. Coral and fish all gone.

Have a new one that's been set up for a few months in my new house. Currently just live rock and fish. Haven't decided if I want to do coral again. it SUCKED putting 3 years into it last time and losing it all.

Current set up is 90gal with clown, blue hippo tang, coral beauty and some reef chromis. Plan to add a goby and maybe some others at some point.

It's really not as bad as you think, if you set it up right.

I had one for years, but after about the 4th move I decided to give it up.

Yeah maintenance is only really "bad" the first few months. At least in my experience. After a year I was just doing a 10% water change a month and rotating lights out every so often.

Everything else pretty much took care of itself.

Do you have any cheato? id rather not spend 30 bucks to ship some to me or run to prairieville to pay for some.

I never have. I just use a simple sump setup with a protein skimmer. Really don't even need the skimmer, just have it because it was free

yea i have a simple "berlin" style sump. i was going to grow some cheato in there to balance the PH swing and help with the algae bloom i just had.

I believe the bloom started cause i put some food in the tank without the fish in the tank to feed the shrimp and kep bacteria alive.... Thing is i did this like 3 nights in a row drunk. so i think i put too much nutrients in there and the algae bloomed.

Yup. That will cause bloom.

Water changes are your friend in that case.

I have not the slightest clue what you just said.

I would recommend Bayou Reefkeeping over LARC. BRK is better organized and they have a lot of great members across the state and in the surrounding states.

I used to have a 34gallon tank and 120 gallon. I've been toying around with the idea of getting back into the hobby with a small setup.
