It's badass and not cheap. That's pretty much all there is to it.

Cold, clammy, dirty looking all the time...

Cheaper than tile, you can etch it and make groves like tile also. DIY is a pain in arse.

This.
We did our pool house like this a few years ago, and while it is perfect for that application, I didn't do it all in the house we just built.
I think it is a trend that has passed, IMO.

Cheap if you DIY. Jimjackandjose has done a couple

Man, w/e you do make sure the people doing it know wtf they are doing. My cousin has stained concrete floors in her house, and the color looks nice, but the people that did it were high, drunk or a combination of both b/c there's no way a sober person could scrape the lines for the designs that crooked.

Nope but my dad and I put a NASCAR floor in his workshop. Clear 20 mil coat with red white and blue flakes.
I'm guessing you're not gonna want that in your house though?

Stained and polished is the way to go. Like super polished like marble.

somebody didnt know how to do it..
my last house was all coca cola stain, with 6 layers of wax over it,,, looked great ALL the time, looked like it had about 2 inches of glass on top of the concrete, ducks would have never been able to light..
had every room etched around the walls and diamond patterns were matched to the size of the room,, loved it... the maid mopped it with plain water once a week..
It stayed the same temp as the inside of the house,, not hot, not cold,,, whatever your house was..

tried to do it in garage but I sucked at it

Yeah, this is what my cousin has on hers, its stained a deep red/maroon, and looks really nice, but like I said, some of the lines that were etched are cooked and wavy.

Jjj did a badass job on the ones he did.

all depends on the contractor.. my guy used a straight edge, skil saw with diamond blade, pulled lines on the naked slab and cut the whole thing before any walls or anything was ever installed,,, came out perfect..
VERY important to keep slab covered up during construction and super clean... I had 2 layers of cardboard, and 4 layers of paper protecting it mainly from the dang plumbers that dropped crap everywhere..was not a cheap alternative, by any means..

I think the bottom line here is some of you had it done right and others skimped.

Built my house a couple years ago. We didn't put one bit of flooring. Stained and scored concrete throughout and I love it.
Here is a pick during construction.

ask to see his portfolio, names of references,, etc... go see the jobs....
sound carries on nekkid concrete,,, will need a few rugs, maybe... i hated to put them down,, loved the concrete... the first night after i poured,, some deer got on slab,, several months later the light hit the slab just right and i found deer tracks on my coca cola stained floor, it looked pretty cool,,, kinda gave it character.
