Yes, I am a poor person, laugh if you want. I am looking for a cheaper alternative to the GoPro. I have found many online, but I would like to hear some reviews of what everyone is actually using. Has anyone come across any that are decent?

I bought an Intova super sport II. Made for diving, but takes good above water stills and video.

What about the basic GoPro Hero? Specs look pretty decent, lacks a few features compared to the higher end GoPros but still only cost $130.

Its definitely an option. I just see a whole lot of cameras out there for well under $100 that spec out to be pretty good comparisons to the GoPros.

I have the Sony Action Cam (AS100v). Works just as good as far as I can tell.

ETA: Sony Action Cam vs GoPro Hero 3+ Black

I am going to try out the SJcam SJ4000.

I had not heard of them until I saw them mentioned in PapaPogey drone thread on the tech board.

GoPro knockoff but for $65 its worth a shot.

Wifi model is $97

Find a used hero 2, look at the stuff I post, you can still shoot good stuff with it.

Those SJ6000s are legit for the money: Great quality video with an LCD screen for framing your time-lapse shots and you can use all of the gopro accessories. You can get the Wifi version on Amazon prime for $79 with lots of mounts and accessories. I think you can find packages with 3 batteries and a charger for $99.

Plenty of reviews online.

I have the Sony AS100V. Great video, (Example), but the accessories and mounts are high $$ and there aren't a lot of "knock-off" mounts that work with it.
I also think that none of the cameras do a very good job at distance. In the goose video linked the furthest decoy is only 45 yards or so.

I will check out the camera Pop linked for different angle shots.

I believe the 6000 is just a newer model with better technical specs, especially when it comes to the fisheye look on still pics. I've had mine for a year and I've been happy with it for the price. I don't have the Wifi model, but I'm thinking about grabbing one.

I am wondering the same. Also is the sj6000 made by sjcam? I ask because the 6000 is not on sjcam's website. I have read some reviews that some cameras are knockoffs and are pretty much junk.

Wasp cams are pretty bitchin. Pretty sure they use a lot of the same mounts as the gopro as well.

Do you have a Wasp? The reviews I read said it was great above water but crap under. Any truth to that?

Cheaper alternative is buy a waterproof case for your phone. Life proof has all kinds of mounts and mounting options for iPhone and samsungs. This is assuming when you say poor, you don't have a flip phone.

I have a DSLR that I haven't touched in months because my phone takes great photographs and video and is also the reason I've never bought a gopro. I just don't see the need anymore.
