FWIW, I've watched one episode of Appalachian outlaws and thought it was as shitty as Swamp people. Never watched it again bo
Amen to that. Pure fake and scripted.

Ran across a rough looking fella on the edge of the national park about a month ago... Said he was looking for morels but he looked more the ginseng poaching type

More than likely. "I was just looking for mushrooms and walking sticks". Every ginseng hunters excuse when caught out of season.
Which national park?

Most of the National Park is untouched from poachers, but tthere's a few that get through and get caught. Which makes no sense with North Cherokee national forest directly above the park and southern Cherokee national forest right below it. Both of which are public land that you can apply for a permit to hunt ginseng, black bear, etc.. The Cherokee are the only people that I know of that are able to get to the stuff inside or on the backside of the GSMNP because of their tribal lands.

this dude was definitely inside the park. he may have been hunting morels like he said as it was the beginning of the morel season. he definitely looked more like a ginseng poacher than a morel hunter though
