I'm able to get a very sweet deal on a raymarine dragonfly. From what I hear, they are pretty bad arse. I'm also aware you can't use local standard mapping cards on them. I'm also looking at the lowrance 5 hdi or higher. What's the OB's opinion?

Go with the Lowrance, you will not regret it. I'm fixing on getting the HDS 7 Gen 3. It has Wi-Fi, so I will have the unit on the dash and I'll have an Ipad synced up to it on the front with all the controls and screen from the main unit.

This is just for a regular boat, not a kayak. That would be a bit overkill unless you OT rich.

Chirp technology is a bit of overkill for your regular weekend fisherman in lakes in my opinion. Now for a guide going offshore that wants to target wrecks, submerged humps/holes I would say yes
