Yep. I wouldn't mind working out of the country or wherever they want to send me for the first couple years so I should be fine.

I've always thought about getting my masters and if the market is still shitty it might make my decision a little easier.

Towing industry looking pretty weak as well with lots of equipment being tied up mostly OSV and large tugs but even the inland barge pushers are feeling some squeeze now. The phone hasn't rang in a long time about a new vessel build.

the OSV market is saturated with new builds. I see more and more boats stacked in safe harbor every week, but the pumpkin fleet just pulled like 9 boats out and sent a few to south America and Trinidad.
honestly surprised Harvey gulf didn't tank so far with all their buy outs and new builds.

Exactly what I did. Got out in '08 and the job market was shite.

Went in for M.S. and once I finished that, the job market was still shite.

Got offered a fully funded Ph.D. and did that. I'm on my second position now as a PhD Mech E and I've had multiple offers each time.

I work with family in oilfield transportation industry, this has been the slowest we've been since 2008. With that said we've adjusted a little better this time around, changing rates to stay competitive as well as picking up other customer bases and new avenues of moving freight. It's crazy to see just how much the oilfield slowing down has actually affected the entire freight transportation industry.

I dabble in heavy haul transportation and logistics as well, and it has definitely slowed us down a lot.

I work on the drilling side, in south Texas right now. At this point 2013 we had 22 rigs running, now we are down to 8 and possibly 7 by March. It's not looking any better for the short term. I've read several forecasts that say we should avg $50/bbl this year. If that's the case it's going to ha e to start turning around soon. and good luck fellas

QA/QC engineering field support and completing wells is where we come in. The majority of my work is done for Shell. We have what seems to be enough work to keep us fed through 2016 but it'll be tight. On a U.S. and world scale, what's going to shake the cage enough to see this thing pick up?! I'm a very simple man and world economics is just not somthing that I fully understand.

My Dad is currently a pipe laying inspector after being a Foreman for what seems like forever. He has only worked 2 weeks in the past 3 months or so. He seems to be doing fine financially. What really chaps my arse is he worked for Global Industries for 25+ years and when Technip bought them they laid him off after about 2 years. He was only a few years away from retirement.

I remember in the 80's we lived in Houma and when the bust hit, we were fickin dirt poor. My Dad told me then that he would never let me work in O&G unless I absolutely had to.

Good luck to all you who are riding it out. Although O&G doesn't directly affect me now, it has in the past and I know how much it sucks.

Babydaddy1313?

He uses a lot of accountants that are basically contract employees. I think he's got 5 or 6 working for him now. I'll talk to him this weekend and see what's up with it because he's getting old and doesn't need to be working 20hr days anymore

I was working on governors, and even that was effected by the drop in prices. Everyone is wanting to do their shite in house or out of the country now because it's cheaper

Same situation. My dad was laid off in 86' fron a drilling company, ended up going work for West Building Materials till they folded. Took him about a year to find that job. He always told me to stay away from the OF but I didn't listen.

Im on the new construction side of Fabrication and we are slow. Picking up whatever we can now, it ain't looking good.

We are small business in SWLA and an OEM of pressure control equipment. We've taken it on the chin starting in November of 14. Its been a struggle to hold on to the small number of employees we have. The other side is trying to get inventory dwindled down to a manageable level, and keep a supply chain that allows us the keep some of our ability to ramp up production if need be.

Its like going 80 mph on the interstate and hitting a dead stop. We always knew it was possible, but its a one foot on the gas, one foot on the brake business as a small manufacturer.

I work in geophysical consulting. Luckily, our current project was funded in the summer of 2014 right before the nose dive.

It's disheartening drilling a good well knowing the oil price has been cut about 70%. Needless to say, the pipeline end of the project has been dragging it's feet as the price continues to tumble.

I have a business degree and do a lot of the title opinion, leasing, permitting and data (logs, plats, etc.) submission with appropriate agencies. Since it's slowed, I've been taking geology classes at a local college. First college classes I've taken in 11 years. I figured by showing a little initiative, cutting my hours about 20% because of the classes, and the general knowledge I'll pick up is decent insurance policy to stay employed.

If not, there is always the powerball...

I'm not going back. I do have a lot saved and no kids. May be going back to school as I only have an associates degree in drafting. It's hard to face the reality I won't ever make what I was when in the field.
