If you want to carry a loaded pistol in your car in Alabama without a permit, the state senate believes you can do that. Now, it's off to the house of reps to pass it.

About time. My GF got her CCW in part because it makes it simpler to transport a handgun and ammo to the range and back. Without a CCW you havd to have firearms in a locked case, ammo in its own case, and both in the trunk or otherwise inaccessible to a driver or passenger. In a single cab truck like her's that meant finding space behind the seats or having to figure out a way to secure everything in the bed.

That's the same law that California has. Stupid Gumps probably make fun of California's gun laws too

Gumps are a backwards species. They are only recently getting their pointy little heads straight on alcohol laws too.

It prevented many angry family members offing their immediate family members when they weren't upset enough when Bama loses.

I'm in Bama now for a soccer tournament for my daughter. I had no idea I couldn't carry a gun in the truck with me. Oh well

For now, if it's unloaded, you're in the clear.

That's probably what Bama DE Tim Williams told the cop
quote:

The pistol that led to Alabama star outside linebacker Tim Williams' arrest early Thursday morning was apparently purchased three weeks ago at a gun store while Williams was home in Louisiana.

That's what Williams, who was arrested and charged with carrying the pistol without a permit, told the arresting University of Alabama Police Department officer, according to court records obtained by AL.com.

Williams told the officer the gun store gave him a temporary paper permit, but he didn't have it in his possession. The Alabama linebacker shared a receipt from the gun store that he was under the impression would qualify as a permit, but the arresting officer told Williams that he had to have a valid pistol permit in order to "conceal carry."

Williams was then arrested and transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, according to court records. ...

You guys think the Alabama cops know a store owner wouldn't issue a CCW to him when he bought it?

Will be interesting to follow to see if he's even taken a class and submitted the paperwork. If Saban got the Ouachita Parish DA to let Cam Robinson and Cam Sims off on their charges, can he get someone in Louisiana to issue a CCW to Tim Williams?

My cousin just recently posed this question to me regarding the laws here in Louisiana. He held the belief that without a ccp it was illegal to carry a loaded firearm in the car. I sent him the Louisiana statutes that says carrying a gun completely enclosed in your car is a constitutional right but he held the belief that that was only talking about unloaded guns. I cannot find anywhere that makes the distinction between unloaded and loaded firearms in Louisiana regarding any of these laws. Am I mistaken in thinking that Louisiana makes no distinctions with regards to a loaded or unloaded firearm for any of its statutes?

In Louisiana the car is an extension of your home, you can keep a loaded firearm in it with no special permit.

Please do yourself a favor and know the gun laws of whatever state you are traveling through. NRA has a good easy app that lets you know in a matter of seconds. I'm in no way calling you out because I have been guilty of doing the same thing many times in the past. We just owe it to ourselves and our families to be smart and prepared as we go forth now.

There really is no such thing as an extension of your home when it comes to gun laws. It doesn't say that in any statute. I know what you are saying is correct because the stature actualy reads more like "no law can interfere with any constitutionally given right I.e having a gun completely contained in a vehicle" but the whole extension of your home is not so much a myth but a misnomer. What I was specifically looking for is why my cousin thought their was a distinction between a loaded and unloaded firearm. And if their is such a distinction where does it apply.

They probably want pass it because Alabama is an open carry state. If they pass this law you need no license unless you want to carry concealed.

Some states make the distinction, some do not, some are vague and rely on various cases to define it. In Louisiana there is no law against carrying a firearm in a POV and doesn't distinguish loaded or unloaded as far as I know.

Yeah, but it's sure a lot easier and faster to get a cc in AL than LA.
