Advice on hunting a snake

My rat terrier got bitten by a snake Friday afternoon. She was in the edge of the woods behind my house (50 yds) and started squealing and running to me. When I got to her I could see the blood on her head. Fang marks were 1-1/4" apart, one below the eye and one directly in the ear. I knew things were bad, called my vet friend, and took off to his house. She got 3 shots and he said if she made it through the night she would survive. Made her comfortable when we got home, but she died in her bed during the night.
Looked for the snake for 2 hours Saturday, and then went back out Sunday afternoon to look some more. I tied a rag on a rod and reel, and drug it through the leaves, hoping to make it move without having to get close. No luck on discovering the whereabouts of snake. There is a very thick ditch running through my property, with palmettos and vines - almost a jungle that I would'nt wade into. The woods run all the way up to the back of my dog kennel (not where the little dog lives though- she ran loose)
Freaked out that this happened so close to my house, and the bitch is still out there. Neighbor that lives behind that strip of woods said he has killed 2 BIG rattlesnakes in his yard this year.
Any advice on finding the culprit?
TL-DR:
Satan's spawn on the loose behind my house. Need help exterminating large unknown poisonous snake.

Never tried it myself, but I've seen where you can use a large minnow trap. Put a couple of eggs inside and place trap along the edge of a wood line, tree, ditch and check every other day?

Sorry about your pup. Maybe you can get alx or mung out there...

Dang man-that sucks. No idea on catching it, as it may not even be close anymore after that encounter.

terrible. sorry for your loss. terriers are bred to hunt and kill pests, and that instinct gets the best of them sometimes. my lab did the same thing w a cottonmouth, but he was big enough to survive it, despite head swelling up like a cantaloupe.
The snake is probably long gone. not like he is out there waiting to eat something as large as a dog. just passing thru and had the misfortune to run into your dog.

Thanks for all the sympathy. The little dog was sweet, but fearless and crazy, and I knew her day would come. The kids are sad, but life goes on.

What area do you live in?
ETA: He could be long gone if he was just happening by, but some snakes like to hang out in the same territory - especially if there is a steady food supply available. On many occasions we've missed on catches, then kept coming back to the same spot til we caught them.

given your family's feelings on that canine, it seems like you would let her go hiking with me anytime.

My family is a lot more attached than I am. I have lost several dogs over the years and am kind of dull to it. Felt sorry for the poor dog having to die that way, but I guess it's better than getting flattened by a car.
More worried about seeing a huge rattler in my yard that may bite my son. Thankfully both kids are old enough to be wary of danger.
Will keep looking for the snake, and definitely post his trophy picture on here (if there's anything left)

Women and chirren are typically more attached. only a woman would spend $2000 on a dog's vet bill. I have a friend in CA that took her chicken to the vet when it ate snail bait. I offered to make a gumbo, but she declined.
You back up the the Methodist center woods? I've been thinking that would be a great spot for a disc golf course.
