All of those variables seemed to make no difference in how the ducks responded or reacted to our calling.
This is so situational that unless you saw what was happening in person no one is really going to be able to give you any out of the ordinary tips.

Bring enough stuff to be able to make half time adjustments and if they aren't acting right look around you, maybe you're missing something. They're looking at things from 50' up.

Stupid people make broad generalizations. Lots of veteran hunters use mojos.

How was your shooting position and decoy spread set up in relation to sunrise and wind direction?

Number of decoys might be something to look at. If you saw 150-200 mallards in the hole then I'd be comfortable putting out a larger spread.

Another question, you saw all those ducks on Friday. How many of them did you get up when you and your buddies went in there on Saturday? Were they still grouped up like on Friday?

I would put just a couple of decoys up against the woods.

What was the weather like? If it was cloudy that could have caused them to not finish as well vs a blue sky sunny day. Also if there was no wind, that probably didn't help either. They finish much better with some wind blowing. It sounds like you have the calling down just fine so it could have just been a weather thing.

Mojos work without a doubt. Except on geese, I think they are terrifed of mojos.

Very little wind. It was a non-factor. And it was overcast all morning so sun wasn't an issue either.

Fair enough. It's a haul out there so a large spread wasn't much of an option with my current set-up but maybe I can do some things to change that.

Very few on the water when we set up, but they all came in after shooting light.

Calm and overcast. Very unusual for Oklahoma for it to be that still. I did what I could with the jerk string but they just didn't seem interested in the decoys period.

So this past Friday I found a large flooded lake bottom grown up with willows, buckbrush and lots of vegetation. It was broken up with pockets of water and beaver channels. It also had hundreds of mallards in it.

What time of day was it when you saw all these birds on Friday?

This is probably the biggest factor of all. The no wind didn't help you either. If I were you I would go back on a sunny day with wind, put your decoys against the trees, and if the ducks are already broke on your spread do not call a lick. If you insist on a mojo put it in the buttonwoods where they only see a flash now and again.

from sunrise to at least 30 minutes after sunrise. I left at that point so I didn't spook them.

I'm no expert. But the best mallard hunt I've ever been on, we didn't use a single decoy.

I live in OKC, but hunt everywhere from NWOK to SEOK. Pretty much down for anywhere within a 2hr drive. This particular location is just around the bend from noneofyourdamnbusiness! Stay outta my hole ya damn potlicker!

But seriously, any OB'er is welcome to give me a shout and try to come make a hunt. Polar Pop, Clyde and gorillacoco have all killed ducks with me before and can vouch I'm good people.
