ctually, they will push to ban the military looking semi aromatics
No ban. AR-15 and ammunition sales are about to reach new record sales. Gun Manufacturers are pushing money to both sides of the aisle. Its a political game.

They should ask cheaperthandirt how this worked out for them.

Right, the ban of selling those guns didn't make Dicks lose business, it was people who stopped going there all together as a result.

They had plenty of magiznes today

I guess Academy just got put on the list with Dick's and CTD. Maybe I'll buy stock if they are openly traded in a few years after it drops.

Looks like the rifles are still for sale just not on display.
I'm pretty sure they did this after sandy hook also. .223 prices went through the roof.

I really would like to sell mine
Why don't you go stand out front and wave yours in the air. It's obvious that no one wants it here.

Yup, they did this then. They took them down but they still sell them. They just don't want the bad publicity right now. Give it a month or two and they will be right back up there. After Sandy Hook I was one who went out and bought lowers and ammo. I won't do that again. All of this will blow over soon and things will go back to normal. It's just a knee jerk reaction from such a terrible event.

Visited Academy today and the "big black scary guns" were off the shelf. They are still for sale, but not on display as of this morning.
What about Ruger Mini-14's? The other semi-auto .223 caliber sporting rifle that functions the same way? Does Academy even sell those?

It really is crazy when you think about it. This is a huge company caving to political pressure and because they believe that the negative image associated with selling a black scary gun right now will jeopardize their business based off of public perception. How can they be naïve to not know that ALL of their business comes from the working middle class that are the only types that will ever buy this. If Academy wanted to really make a statement and help their business (which is what they have to THINK they are actually doing by this chickenshit knee jerk reaction), then they would promote an AR-15 sale right now. 10% off all rifles, 20% off all accessories, and move as much bulk ammo as possible. That would be heartless in the sense that it's taking advantage of a tragic situation to turn a profit (they would almost be as bad as our Government in that sense), but who could blame them. Instead, they do the exact opposite and pull these guns off the shelves. Do they not have smarter people sitting on mahogany row at Academy's headquarters that can say "hey, ummmmmm, guys. Right now is the perfect opportunity to sell a metric shite ton of AR-15's if we promote it. Why in the frick do you want to pull them from the shelves? Our target consumer is conservative and could give a rat's arse about public perception. Most of them are members of the NRA...." I will never understand how we have become such little bitches in this country.

Please remove all products resembling MSR's including AirSoft/Air Guns
They don't even want the BB guns displayed... haha.

Send a well thought out missive to academy's customer service and see if/how they respond.

Online? If you are paranoid about them recording your name, doesn't name, address and financial data stored on an online site freak you out?

Thank you for contacting Academy Sports + Outdoors. We are currently selling modern sports rifles, but out of respect for the victims and the tragic situation in Orlando, we have chosen not to broadly advertise or display these items. Our selection varies by store and your best source for current inventory availability is by checking with your local store.
As a family and community focused retailer, Academy Sports + Outdoors is constantly evaluating our business to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers. Our decision to remove modern sports rifles from display while continuing to make them available to those customers legally eligible to purchase them reflects that commitment. Please feel free to use this $50.00 in store coupon we are attaching to this email.

I'm telling people $5k. If an AWB does happen, it's going up to $50k.
