J/K (sorta).

What a scary situation. Why did the assailant start firing into the air?

I bet you would too if your body developed an immunity to armed robbers, melanoma, poison ivy and western medicine.

No notes needed, I just tend to remember delusional bullshite when I hear or read it. Comes in pretty handy with the wife.

I'm no Neo from the Matrix, or anything though.

Hope I'm never in a situation like that. Good for him keeping his cool though, it's probably hard to do.

Krav mega, eh? That's funny. Have you ever seen what happens to a Krav guy who tries that silly shite with someone who actually knows how to fight?

Some are going to disagree but he did the right thing. Bad shite would have 100% happened if he pulled the gun.

Truth.

Unfortunately there is no way to train for this kind of thing without that training being your full time job.

Shooting up the place, as fun as it sounds, is not the right move. Unless of course you're the only one getting mugged. If you're alone, have at it.

Completely different styles. On one end, you have someone trying to fight you. On the other end, you have someone that is either trying to get away or kill you with anything available.

You may be able to punch me, but as soon as I stab you, who wins? They aren't comparable

I'm not going to second guess him because I wasn't there, but to those saying "what if he would have drawn and the thug would've shot his girl" there is a higher chance of him shooting her simply for seeing him than shooting her after he is shot at. Once he gets drawn on instinct kicks in and shooting her does nothing for him. He will either run, shoot back at man, or both.

As soon as his life is in danger she will no longer exist to him.

I'm impressed. I expected a lot of bad asses telling all how they would have handled that situation so much better. I hope and pray I'm never faced with a situation like that.

And TPOS needs to be caught and beaten.

Well, not best case scenario. Best case scenario is that POS gets two rounds in his head and the getaway driver and his crew all get the same show of respect.

a. I am puzzled by the part of his story that said, "He then started shooting in the air so I ducked into the house and grabbed my AR-15 to see if I could talk to him about what happened. By the time I made it in the house and back out, he was long gone."

If you've made it to a place of safety, it's time to cut your losses and call 9-1-1.

I think "best case" is not getting picked as a victim.

The dude says, "Well, I think that the guy started out from inside of the car that was on the street and came up to behind the bush. The biggest problem is that I was not paying attention."

Entering and exiting your vehicle is a time to focus on your situational awareness. Members here who have taken my class will likely recall our discussion of this very topic.

c. With all that said, he survived. So it's hard to criticize the end result.
