Was driving home from work this morning and saw something I haven't seen since I was a kid...a Grey Fox. The crazy part was that I saw 2, and there's a good chance there were more. I was passing around a curve, and I saw some eyes off the road at the edge of a field. Slowed down and saw 2 sets of eyes low to the ground. Was able to angle my lights towards them as they skitted off. Pretty cool considering it's an animal I've seen once in my lifetime.

So, this sight sparked a debate me and some guys have had. Would you shoot a fox in the wild?

I've had the opportunity where I could have killed 1 red fox for sure and could have taken a decent shot on another. I passed on both. They are pretty rare in our area so to me it would be a selfish harvest. I'd be killing it just to say I did, but I'd be robbing other hunters of the opportunity to see a really pretty animal.

What says the OB on killing a Fox

I let a nice red fox walk earlier this year. Although I was waiting on horns, I think I would have still let it walk of I was looking for ole flat top too.

Id shoot it. They can do some serious damage to turkey and quail populations

I've seen more red foxes than I could count. We have one that shows up at the house every year with the June Bugs and hangs underneath a street light all night eating them. Probably the same bastard that was using the pile of rice bran in my bow stand as a litter box.

Id shoot a red but pretty sure Greys are protected

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought you couldn't shoot any foxes in LA. I've seen a few grey ones from my stand in Lincoln parish.

I'm pretty sure you have to have a trappers lisence to kill a fox.

I let foxes and bobcats walk. Coyotes are dead dogs walking though.

All foxes(red/grey) are protected and can only be taken by licensed trapper during trapping season per LDWF

I just passed a fresh red Fox carcass in front of Lee high on Lee. Sucks to see one go like that.

there is a beautiful grey fox that dens in an abandoned culvert down the woods from my house. In ten years I've watched her raise pups at least three times. Gorgeous animal

unfortunately she found my chicken coop/yard and cleaned me out, twice. I stayed up nights stalking her and tried a trap, but no success. I've decided to wait her out and hope she moves on, I'm not going to shoot her (if I even could get a shot) unless I catch her in the coop

That's pretty neat. Sorry about your coop. There is a young red fox kit hanging around the house a bunch. My brother threw out stale crackers for the birds. Looked out there a few nights ago, he was sitting right in the middle of the crackers chowing down.

Good looking mount! Things like foxes, bobcats, and coyotes really tell you if a taxidermist is good or not.

yeah he did s great job on it. I was deer hunting and saw that fella running through the pines. I started lip squeaking and he came running in like i had him on a string. Had to stand up and yell at him to stop haha. Always wanted a fox mount.

Last year had a pretty grey come in during bow season, but i let him walk. Didnt need another mount so i just watched

Very cool!! Had my 8 year old hunting wed. We are bucks only. Of course a big doe comes out. About 3 minutes later a big red fox comes out, walks right up to her as she stares at him. They lock eyes at 2' apart. Then as if to say "what's up?" to each other and each just went on their way. My son was ecstatic.

We have a huge fox population in Sonora. They will aboslutely wreck turkey and quail populations so we shoot them as much as possible.
