Help me understand. Why would anyone pay $90k, or even $37k for a cow? I know PBR Bulls go for a lot but they make an income.

In this case, it's one of the classier auctions of the year. As far as the stuff related to my bull selling high, it's just a desirable bloodline.

Check it out, they are selling these cows in a ball room tonight.

Ok but why pay that much? They buy the cattle to have offspring that will eventually get slaughtered for beef? Or something else?

These aren't slaughter cattle. These are world class Texas Longhorns. They buy them to do flush/embryo transfers and make more. Some of the best are cloned.

Our culls get slaughtered or sold as roping cattle, but the stuff selling tonight is some of the best of the best. I'm just lucky to have had the opportunity to get my bull when I did. He never was officially for sale, the owner approached me because we had discussed him in depth a year or two ago. I told him then to call me if he ever wanted to sell him. The guy have me his word and sure enough he called. I bought him right then and there.

How long will it take you to recoup your investment or turn a profit?

On my bull? Maybe 3 calves. The guy gave me a heck of a deal on him. It basically boiled down to him knowing I had a good place for him to go. Like I said, we had a long discussion about him so he knew how much I appreciated him. He asked a very, very, very fair price for him. I paid asking price...

My mom couldn't believe what I got him for. She asked me, "Are you sure he didn't steal him?"

Are they gentle? I'd love to get one as a pet sometime.

That's pretty true. I got live updates on my phone as the sale rolled on last night.

I know nothing about cattle, but that is a pretty calf.
These cow threads are pretty cool.

Don't know if you remember but when we ALMOST moved to Texas, I was thinking about buying 100 acres near Center that had Longhorns on it. If we had stayed there and things had worked out, I'd probably have some of those. I loved watching them. Pretty cool creatures.

In order it's...

Bueno Rattler

So you could name the calves something like.
Candy Gold
Sweet Tooth Hoya
And, I don't know... Rattler Gums.

I feel like I'm in a 'pimp my name' thread.
