I'm a concealed handgun instructor so I may throw a lot of information at you in this reply. Take some time to digest it.

You should definitely be looking at a full sized 9mm so it's good that you're focused on that. If you have any desire for your significant other (or future SO) to use it too, a full sized 9mm is my highest recommendation.

I'll link a post I made about firearm sizes:

Firearm Sizes Explained

First Gun Advice (mostly geared fowards females but still)

I think one suggestion that is underrepresented in this thread is the FN FNS 9mm. It is an insanely underrated gun and I absolutely love mine. The factory grip is a bit of a cheese grater feel so I'd advise getting some rubberized Talon Grips for it.

Good luck and bring any questions you need here. If you need personal advice I'd be happy to give you my email address.

I love my Ruger SR9

Don't forget about the Ruger American
Also they just released the subcompact which also comes with a full size extension mag. Best of both worlds.

Last thing to keep in mind. I bought my SR9 during the last firearm scare and everyone was buying all the 9mm ammo. I couldn't find any anywhere. .40 was overflowing on the shelves. My next gun purchase was a .40.

When ordering online, how much in fees do local shops normally charge?

If you're curious, call a local FFL and ask them what their transfer fee is. If you're in Baton Rouge I would suggest using Sulzer Firearms as he's a poster in here and has great prices.

Depends on the website. some charge 3% for using a credit card. Sportsman Outdoor does not charge either. Free shipping and no Fees.

I used them multiple times. Highly recommeded. Also no tax.

Send any specific questions to ___. It's my trash email but I'll answer you if the message doesn't go straight to junk.

I don't have my own property so I'm mobile and someone has to host for me. But I also do lessons by the hour for whoever needs it.

Are your classes for concealed carry? Or just safety training?

Make sure you bring it to local police station and ask for a firearm registration form

I do full length (full day) concealed carry courses for groups. But I am also willing to do one-on-one training and charge by the hour, so I'm pretty flexible.
