5 cited for red snapper violations

AP Reporting
Five Louisiana men have been cited for alleged red snapper violations.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says agents cited 50-year-old Darren Bartlett, of Kenner; 53-year-old Christopher Bartlett, of Mandeville; 39-year-old Michael Moats, of Metairie; 52-year-old Kevin Pichon, of Metairie; and 52-year-old Robert O'Neil, of Mandeville, for over the limit of red snapper.

Agents on patrol near Venice stopped the men's vessel July 11 for an inspection and found them in possession of 20 red snapper. The bag and possession limit is two red snapper per person.

The five men doubled their legal limit of 10 red snapper.

The alleged violation brings up to a $350 fine and 60 days in jail. They also could face civil restitution of $287 for the replacement value of the over limit fish.

I'm surprised they weren't assessed for anything else. If the WLF agents catch you willfully breaking the laws they'll go through everything and hit you with every other violation they can. Not that I blame them.

They just wanted to knock out a weekend's worth of fishing in one day is all. Efficiency.

That's annoying.. they are giving us a great opportunity to catch the red snapper but people will always try to take advantage of it

I would suggest the Alzheimer defense as they are old enough and say they thought it was 1987.
