I recently decided to build a new box stand. Instead of the traditional 1 man box stand, I took some ideas from a stand my buddy's grandfather built so they could hunt together when they were young. I have kids who will be old enough to go in a few years.

Below is a progression of photos...

Two 10 ft. 4x4's cut in half to make four 5 ft. legs. 2x6 floor bracing and 3/4 inch plywood floor.

Got it framed up and started skinning it in 3/8ths plywood before I remembered to take a picture.

Walled in with a cut out for the door...

I cut out and hinged the windows, attached the door and put on the first coat of OD green paint.

Getting a little fancier with the paint job and I darkened the plywood on the inside to reduce contrast.

Got it set up. I reused some old tin I had laying around to roof it, but I plan on changing it out when I get some better pieces.

Overall, I'm very pleased with how it came out, but please, feel free to point out all noticeable flaws with the project, my vehicle and my home.

Thank you for viewing my thread.

I as well, but it's on a hill looking down towards a creek. Eye level from the window is about 3 feet above the top of a 55 gallon tripod feeder.

The other thing was safety with kids. With a 5 foot floor you can put your gun inside without getting on the ladder.

The height was one of the biggest issues I had to think about.

That's a slick rig. I like it.

How high is the ceiling? It seems like the majority of the stands I get it, I can't stand up in them.

Yes. To support the walls the studs need to go from top to bottom so I framed across the bottom of the window and went up the sides to reach the roof. The bottom of the window is 40 inches from the floor. Another big thing to deal with...

I may still have my hand drawn plans. I'll see if I can upload a pic to help you visualize the dimensions and plywood cuts.

I figured the safety thing for the youngins played a part in the height... as it should.

5.5' in the front and 5' in the back. The roof has a 6" drop over a 4' run.

You can see I went with single windows instead of doubles as i originally planned.

I plan on building something similar soon. I am thinking about leaving the top without windows though just corner posts supporting the roof.

Everyone talks about having windows that run the length of the blind and how that provides a better view. That's true but, it also allows the deer a better chance of busting you with your movement.

I kind of misspoke. The window is framed in to the bottom not all the way around the window. Once it reached the bottom the distance to the top was not enough to warrant additional framing around the sides. I think it would have been over kill. Once I got it squared up and tied it all together it became very sturdy.

In the pics it was barely hanging together in my driveway. I made it modular so all the walls came off so I could move it to it's final location. There I put it together and tied it in with a beam from front center to back center to sturdy it and support the roof in the middle.

That's how I plan to do my window with the frame underneath being a 2x6 for a shelf.

I agree with this but mine will be in the corner of a somewhat narrow field and the road approaching. Id hate for a kid to miss a chance at a deer because he has to reposition to another window. With a solid wall behind us we wont be silhouetted

Also, I was originally only going to cover the outside down to the floor. Every guy I showed my plans to that builds stuff suggested skinning it to the bottom of the floor braces.

I took their advice. It protects the floor supports and gives you an additional 6 inches below the floor to screw plywood into and tie it all together even better.

Not bad.

The base was the heaviest at probably 200 pounds.

The 4 walls were independent and the front being the biggest probably only weighed 100 pounds if that.

I loaded the base last on the trailer and pulled it off first at the final location. From there I put up each wall and tied them all together after some leveling and light shovel work.
