+1 on the Judge. More versatile too. Can have LC .45, the .410 buckshot or self defense shells and something like 6 shot shells for snakes.

Next question.....laser sight or not? I've hunted all of my life (bow and long gun), but I've never been a pistol guy. Is the laser sight needed?

I just carry a snub nose .357 in my back pocket with rat shot. Works just fine.

honestly, I have not found .22 rat shot to be very impressive at all...basically 6 or 7 bb's of #9 shot in a little plastic cup...I think the plastic cup shattering does as much damage as the bb's...won't do much of anything from over ten feet or so...
.410 pistol would be a whole lot more effective at killing snakes or rats from any distance at all...might be a pretty good kick to shoot a .410 shell in a gun that light, though...

I've been looking for .38 Spl/.357 snake shot (CCI) for over a year.
Back on topic. I have CCI snake shot in 9mm & .40 -- both pattern well but the 9mm occasionally fails to eject (maybe 1 shot out of 9 or 10 shots). I'd feel better with the .38/.357 load in a revolver.

I carry a ruger single six loaded with snake shot. Not the kind with the plastic cap but like this.
It's pretty effective up to about 15 feet. Then you have to get extremely lucky.
