I bought some coated lead 215gr lead bullets from Missouri Bullet Company.

I was cutting down .223 cases, forming them in the sizing die, and trimming them to length. First batch I did was terrible. FTE, FTF. They just didn't work.
I bought a sizing gauge because it was having a very hard time getting some of the cases out of the chamber. I figured out that all the stuck cases were Sellier-Belloit (sp?) cases. Turns out they are much thicker than any others (they were 5.56, btw)

Got some more cases that were not S&B and cut, form, trim, loaded with 10gr IMR 4227. Had around 60 rounds. I ran 50 of them in my SBR suppressed without a hiccup. Not one. Even fired 5 or so unsuppressed with no issues.

Very nice!

Try to stick to American made cases. They tend to be the right wall thickness for converting to .300 BLK. There is a chart floating around the internet with all manufacturers with the good wall thickness for conversion, and those which are not good for converting.

I admire your patience w/ all the steps you went through to get some brass. I bought a 300/221 (AKA 300 Whisper, ballistic twin to the Blackout) many years ago when JD Jones of SSK Industries first brought out the Whisper. I've used some Whsper and 221 Fireball brass that was converted from 223 Rem. I wasn't impressed w/ the quality or accuracy. If it were me, I'd buy some actual 300 BO brass and compare the accuracy w/ your converted brass. You can always convert 221 Rem Fireball (the parent cartridge for the Whisper and BO) by expanding the neck and full length resizing. That would be much easier than what you're having to do. Unfortunately, Rem hasn't made any Fireball brass in a couple years. Nosler and Lapua make very good quality Fireball brass, but it's kinda expensive.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Do you not anneal the cases when you resize them? I thought you had to when converting from .223 to 300BLK? That's the only reason I haven't got into resizing to 300.

I haven't. It down any cases yet as I have only reloaded factory 300 boo that I ran through my rifle. I did find that most factory rounds have staked primer pockets that needed to be swaged. Adding another step to the process. I am playing with super sonic loads using the tac-tx black tips

You can always convert 221 Rem Fireball

I'm just plinking with these. Really not terrible concerned with accuracy as I only have a 1-4 power scope on this rifle and an 8.5" barrel. This one is a load the gun, give to my son or daughter let them unload it, load another mag, had it over, load another... You get the point.
Plus, I can pick up buckets of .223/5.56 at my club. Not so much with 221 fireball.

I have not bothered with annealing. So far I have not had any issues with the brass cracking.

I just lube them up really good prior to resizing. They amount that it's sizing isn't very much so I don't worry about it.
