3.0" or 3.5" shotgun shells?

I'm getting a new shotgun, either a Browning BPS 12 guage pump or a Remington 870 express super mag pump(12 guage). The Remington can shoot the 3.5". Never shot 3.5" shells. Is it really that much better when duck hunting? Been told it's better late in the season but don't know if that's just hogwash. What would y'all do/what gun would you get? Y'all been good to me on here so I trust y'all's opinions!

I hunt with only 2.75" and kill just as many ducks as everyone else.
3.5's are for geese.

3"
I hunt geese 75% of the time and hardly shoot 3.5s anymore. Call them in close and 3" #2s do the trick

Shoot for the head and it doesn't matter. I shoot 3" only.

Thanks for the quick responses! I was already leaning Browning. What y'all think?

Is it a new Remington?

I shoot 3.5" #2's in the field, 3" #4's in the timber. That Remington will shoot 3.5", but it won't hold up. Those shells can be tough on a shotgun, and your shoulder.

No reason to shoot 3.5 at ducks

On my phone and don't have time for backup links, but 3" all the way. Basically, the 3.5" kicks like a bitch and that prevents you from making accurate follow up shots. As a result, you kill less birds. Listen to jimbeam - if he is shooting 3" #2s at specks, you're fine shooting 3" at ducks.
The 3.5" shell is obsolete IMO. While it delivers more payload, its detractions outweigh it's benefits. If youre really concerned about downfield payload, shoot a 10ga which was designed from the ground up to handle it.

Turkey hunting is another use for the gun. I've never been but I have friends who hunt with 3.0" for turkey and are fine. Do you see/ feel the difference is worth the Remington?

Buy the BPS, they are about as nice as a pump as you will find. New 870s are shite.
3" is plenty for a turkey.

Beretta 400 handles 3.5 1 3/8 just fine
Love it for rice field hunting

3.5" mainly for range and size of target (geese - maybe turkey). I would consider them overkill for ducks, but I'm not a huge waterfowl hunter. It's a lot of recoil, so I don't think it's worth the trade off for ducks.
Same thing for turkey, really - if you're shooting turkey with steel or at extreme range, 3.5" might be your only option. If you can get close, regular shells are probably fine and dandy for turkey.

There's only one reason I shoot 3 1/2...
Cause they don't make 4's!!
